Best Practices - To Share or Not To Share?
I purchased 1Password 5 via Mac App Store. I've been using your product on my Mac for a couple of months and it works brilliantly! Thank you! Now I want to get a copy of 1Password for my wife. She also uses a Mac. I've read online that your licensing terms allow me to have multiple copies (I forget maximum number) of 1Password on different Macs for members of my family. I've encountered a technical challenge, which I'll describe shortly, but first I want to emphasize that, whatever the solution, I don't want my private account and password information to be commingled with my wife's private account and password information. Here's the technical problem: I tried to download (buy) a version of 1Password from the App Store on her computer using my Apple ID / password, but I get the following (unhelpful) App Store error message: "Unknown Error"!
Given my objective (not wanting private data to be co-mingled) should I buy a separate version for her (for $50, using her Apple ID on her computer) or is there a way of downloading a fresh copy of 1Password on her computer (for free, taking advantage of the fact that I've already purchased 1Password and want to share it with my family . . . seemingly this option involves using my Apple ID on her computer, no?).
Not sure if it makes a difference, but I use iCloud as my syncing solution (between iOS on my iPhone), and my wife will want to do the same (i.e, use iCloud to sync 1Password info between her Mac and iPhone). Thanks!

Hi @Paul_Sauer,
I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble downloading from the Mac App Store on your wife's Mac! Signing into the Mac App Store with your own Apple ID on your wife's Mac should work to download 1Password again for free (as long as that's the same Apple ID you used to buy it). Unfortunately, I don't know why you're getting an "Unknown Error" when trying to do that, as that's an error from the Mac App Store, which is controlled by Apple.
However, the good news is that the Mac App Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac is eligible for Apple's Family Sharing feature which allows other members of your family to share apps purchased from the App Store, even if they're each using different Apple IDs. Apple has steps to set up Family Sharing on their support site here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18977
I don't want my private account and password information to be commingled with my wife's private account and password information.
Here's some more good news - regardless of which Apple ID is used to download the app, it will only be downloading the app itself, and that's completely separate from the data you've added to 1Password on your Mac. In other words, when your wife opens 1Password for the first time on her Mac, it will allow her to set it up as a new user with an empty vault. So, nothing to worry about there. :)
Not sure if it makes a difference, but I use iCloud as my syncing solution (between iOS on my iPhone), and my wife will want to do the same (i.e, use iCloud to sync 1Password info between her Mac and iPhone).
No problem at all! I'm assuming your wife is signed into her own iCloud account in System Preferences on her Mac (and in the Settings app on her iPhone). If so, then when she sets up iCloud sync in 1Password, that will sync her own 1Password data through her own iCloud account. Her Mac and iPhone won't even know you have 1Password data in your own iCloud account, they're completely separate from each other.
Hopefully this helps, but if you have more questions or need anything else, just let us know! :)
