1password5 not working on Macbook Pro

Hello,

I've got a problem that is keeping me from using the program. Here is what happened. Back in October 2014 I installed the demo version of 1password5. I created a temporary vault to test out the program. I let the demo expire. Fast forward to today, July 13 2015, and I decided to buy the 1password5 App on the iTunes store.

I download the App and unfortunately when it opens, I'm asked to login to the test vault I created for the demo version. Of course, I cannot remember it now. I tried following the directions to delete the vault and it did not work. I tried to create a new vault and the option is not selectable for me. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didn't work either.

At this point, I need professional help. Any advice?

Thanks,

Greg

I think before we go any further it's important to know exactly what copies of 1P you have on your Mac. That's because you say:

Back in October 2014 I installed the demo version of 1password5

which means you must have installed from the AgileBits store (as the Mac App Store does not provide any trial version) and you also say:

I decided to buy the 1password5 App on the iTunes store.

which I assume means you downloaded and installed 1P5 from the Mac App Store (i.e., using the App Store app on your Mac). Apple store names can be confusing so I'm assuming you meant to refer to the Mac App Store rather than the iTunes Store.

If you do a Spotlight search on your Mac for 1Password what result do you get? Please list the result(s) in a reply to this post and we can then proceed to the next step.

    Hi @Borogee,

In an attempt to try and be extra helpful, the Mac App Store version of 1Password for Mac sees a vault exists where our AgileBits Store version stores its data and it imports it. Now sometimes that's nice and handy and one less thing for the user to worry about, other times, like now it's merely a pain in the rear for you. Thankfully there is a solution.

Here is a link to our How do I start over with an empty vault? guide. Now at one point the instructions split depending on which version of 1Password you are running, the AgileBits Store or Mac App Store version. I would like you to follow the steps for both versions please. Once done 1Password shouldn't find a vault and will instead ask if you'd like to make a new one.

Should you have any problems at all please do let us know but given the issue is a test vault I'm confident that simply removing it is exactly what you want to do

    Hey Littlebobby and Stephen,

Thanks so much for your help. Littlebobby, your recommendation to follow both sets of directions solved my problem! I can now use the program. Now it looks like I need to drag all those files back into their original folders, right?

@Borogee: If you've got 1Password up and running now, simply delete the old support files you dragged to the desktop. We just recommend holding onto those temporarily for safekeeping, in case you change your mind. But if 1Password is working for you and working the way you want it to, they are no longer needed — it will have created a new set of support files. I hope this helps! :)
