Should the version numbers of 1Password and 1Password Safari Extension match?
Got one of the "Safari can't install this extension" notices this AM. Started digging in and find that there seems to be a version number mismatch between the Safari extension that is currently installed and the version of 1Password I'm running as an application. The application version number is 5.3.2 but the Safari extension says version 4.4.0.
I'm running Mac OS-X 10.10.4. and Safari 8.0.7.
I Quit and restarted Safari, and tried going to the download page for the extension, where Safari gave me a blank page and said it couldn't find any information there. The help page for the "can't install" notice says to Uninstall the 1Password extension, but I'm hesitant to do that before knowing I can download and install a replacement.

Hi @wrwing,
The reason for the difference in version numbers is that 1Password for Mac, 1Password for Windows and the extensions all develop at different paces. As the extensions apply equally to both platforms it's easiest to assign them their own version numbers. So the latest extension version is 4.4.1.
To reassure you, there is no risk to your vault at all by uninstalling the Browser Extension. The extension's purpose is to allow 1Password mini to understand the web page and act as a conduit for the data to be filled. Nothing is stored in the extension unlike how it used to be with 1Password 3. The new approach is far better for that reason and while it maybe isn't quite routinely, I will uninstall the extension without a second thought when performing certain troubleshooting tasks.
It might be worth uninstalling the extension and even rebooting the Mac if you're having difficulties before attempting to install a fresh copy of the latest extension which is available from our 1Password Browser Extensions page.
