locating .agilekeychain in Time Machine
I had to wipe my computer do to a software failure. I've now redownloaded 1 Password, but I can't seem to find the .agilekeychain to restore my old passwords. Because I never set it up with sync, it's not in iCloud or dropbox. Using the finder, all i can find is the application, but no keychains. What can I do? I can't log in to ANYTHING because I lived and died by 1password remembering all my passwords. I can't bank, I can't check Facebook, HELP!
1Password Version: 5.3.2

@katherine20: (Un)fortunately AgileBits has neither your 1Password data nor the Master Password used to secure it, so this isn't something we can 'recover' for you to help directly. And since you've indicated that you didn't sync your vault to any other devices that really limits your options.
The only other possibility would be to recover it from a backup of your computer. Did you perhaps use Time Machine? It may be possible to recover it from there. Otherwise, you will simply have to start over I'm afraid. Please let me know hat you find. I look forward to hearing back from you!

Brenty - I do have my Time Machine and several backups. I searched the forums and found several threads about ~/Library and ~/Container, but can't find the folder 1Password mentioned. Where else could it be?

Take a look at this knowledge base article:
Where does 1Password store its data?
I think you're using the the AgileBits store version so you'll want to look at the sections that relate to that version (as opposed to the Mac App Store version).

Note that Apple hides the ~/Library folder by default, and I think this will hold for the Time Machine backups as well.
Try the following. Press the Option key and go to the Go menu in the Finder. This will now offer an option for your Library folder. Choose this and enter Time Machine.
You should be able to find the relevant folder now in Application Support. Remember that the folder is called 1Password4 even though you are using 1PW5.

Hi @katherine20,
I hope the information from Stephen and danco was helpful! Were you able to find your 1Password data in Time Machine? You should be able to find your 1Password backups (as mentioned in the link from Stephen) and use one of those to restore your 1Password data. But if you're still having trouble with that, just let us know exactly where things are going wrong, and we'll continue from there. Thanks!

Hi Drew_AG, unfortunately no. I can find the application support folder, but there isn't a folder in it called 1Password4. Any other suggestions?

Not in any Time Machine backup? You might have to go back a while before finding it. If it's not in a backup for any date, then I have no other suggestions.

Hi @katherine20,
1Password4 is a hidden folder, so even if it's there, you won't find it just by browsing.
- In Time Machine, press Shift+Command+G (⇧⌘G), which is the same as selecting Go > Go to Folder... in Finder.
- This should pop up a "Go to Folder" text box, into which you should paste
~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/
. - Then restore the most recent backup file.
Does this work? I look forward to hearing how it goes.

is it possible that it may not exist? that folder doesn't exist in any of my backups going to back to 2013. could the folder also be hidden in dropbox? i don't see it there, but if its also hidden, perhaps i'm not seeing it.

Sorry if this is redundant, but can you confirm that you're using the ⇧⌘G shortcut, rather than browsing or doing a Spotlight search?
If you were using the AgileBits Store version of 1Password 5 (which you probably were at some point, as I can see that you bought a license from us), the
~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/
folder would have existed. However, if you were using the Mac App Store version of the app, supporting files would be stored in
~/Library/Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/
(as noted in the article that Stephen_C linked to above). This is another one you'll want to paste into the "Go to Folder" box. See anything there?0 -
Hi Vee - I am definitely sure that the ~/library location can not be found using the shortcut you mentioned. And yes, you are correct that I do/did have the AgileBits Store version. I was updating passwords all the way up until wiping everything yesterday. With all of the saving of stuff, I can't seem to understand why the folder doesn't exist.

to clarify, i do have the application support folder, but there is no 1 password folder.

Hi @katherine20,
Thanks for the additional info. I have to admit, at this point it's hard to tell what may have gone wrong or why you can't find the support files where they should be. And to answer your earlier question about whether your data might be hidden in Dropbox: no, 1Password doesn't put any data into Dropbox unless you manually configure Dropbox sync yourself, and even then it isn't hidden.
To get a bit deeper understanding of your situation, I'd like to ask you to create a Diagnostics Report from your Mac.
Here's how: https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/mac.html
Attach the Diagnostics Report to an email message addressed to support+forum@agilebits.com.
Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox. If you wouldn't mind, please also describe in this email a bit about the software failure that caused you to wipe your hard drive and what, if anything, you have restored so far from Time Machine.
You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so we can track down the report and ensure that it is dealt with quickly. :)
Once we see the report, hopefully we'll be able to better assist you. Thanks very much!
