I cant seem to locate any instructions about syncing between 2 macs.
I have now got the old macbook pro syncing to the ipad ( sort of as from time to time I have to renter the sync code) but how do I sync to my new macbook. I 'migrated' the user from the macbook pro to the new mac and so far so good but I use the 2 machines mainly for different things but not entirely. please provide link to instructions1Password Version: Not Provided

This is getting worse. I have 2 users on my macbook pro and they are now not keeping up todate with each other - so please another problem for you to advise me on

Could you let us know what method you are using for syncing, please? The cloud solutions - Dropbox or iCloud (if your license came from the Mac App Store) should work well. If you are using wifi syncing, though, that only works between one Mac and one or more iOS devices.

Hi @fsgd,
As hawkmoth has mentioned, Wi-Fi Sync is only between a single Mac and multiple iOS devices, it doesn't allow you to sync between Macs and definitely not between accounts given it has to be unlocked and running to Wi-Fi sync at all. For those users looking for a local option we have Folder Sync. We advise using it combined with a flash drive rather than a network share due to what frameworks we can use and how they behave with the very different types of storage (removable and network). With a flash drive 1Password will be informed when the drive is mounted and unmounted and behave accordingly, something it can't do with a network share. This single approach would work for not just the two Macs but also multiple accounts on the same machine.
You may very well have plenty of questions, if you do please ask and we'll do our best to answer.

sorry for my ignorance but what is a flash drive?

further question. I can see how to sync to a folder [eg a folder in Shared between the 2 users] but how do i make the app sync to that folder on one off or regular basis

Hi @fsgd,
A flash drive is a USB pen drive (here's a Wikipedia page on the USB flash drive). I normally call them pen drives myself but everybody kept asking me what I meant so I switched to saying flash drive.
Unfortunately there are difficulties in using the Shared folder. OS X doesn't really do a proper communal share where everybody can read and write to a file. Instead whoever creates the file can read and write to it but others can only read. That will mean that two user accounts can't do a proper two-way using the Shared folder as it stands. It's all to do with default permissions that are assigned to a new file and how they don't reflect the permissions of the encasing folder.
With all the forms of syncing it's an automated process, the only way to perform occasional syncing would be to enable and disable repeatedly which we wouldn't recommend. Your data should never suffer but 1Password may get confused and believe there are conflicts that would need to be manually addressed. The safer approach is to set up syncing once and then let 1Password sync as is required. Would you see a need to not keep the various copies in sync?
Please note that if you do set up Folder Sync so that all copies are pointing to a pen drive, it doesn't mean you have to have the pen drive present any time you're using 1Password. 1Password realises a pen drive may not be present because it's a removable drive and will only sync to it when it's present. I just mention that in case the query about occasional syncing was somehow related.
Does any of that help at all?

A bit, but as the"flash drive" does not need to be there all the time could I use an external hard drive. More cumbersome yes but as I have one already , certainly cheaper

You can certainly use an external hard drive if you want @fsgd. The only real advantage of the flash drive is size which boosts the ease. Any removable drive though will achieve the same goal.

I am still trying to work my way through this. I can see how syncing to a flash drive folder would work for the 2 users on my old mac and with the new macbook. but i also have 1drive on my ipad and there is no way I can plug a flash drive into that so given the 4 locations what's the best way to go (2 users on macbook pro, 1 on new mac and a further on ipad)

Hi @fsgd,
You're quite right, Folder Sync isn't compatible with iOS devices due to the inability to connect a USB storage device of any kind to them. So while Folder Sync won't help with the iOS devices we do have Wi-Fi Sync which is designed to complement Folder Sync in this precise situation.
So the idea is Folder Sync allows your Macs to sync while a Mac is set up to act as a Wi-Fi Sync Server. The Mac can communicate with one or more iOS devices and they can all synchronise to this Mac. As long as 1Password is unlocked on the Mac and unlocked and active on the iOS device the two will communicate and ensure their vaults are in sync.
So everything you've been doing so far isn't in vain at all, all you need to do is augment it with a little more one-off configuring for Wi-Fi and you'll be there
If you have any questions please do ask.

So have I got to keep changing the way I sync from folder to wifi and back again, it seems awfully unweildy , is there a way to have both folder and wifi simultaneously?

@fsgd: Wi-Fi Sync is completely separate and can exist alongside any other sync settings. There's no need to disable it, which is why it has its own section in 1Password Preferences. Just leave the Wi-Fi server enabled for use, and then set up Folder Sync for your individual vaults. After all, Folder Sync won't get your data to iOS, but Wi-Fi will. I hope this helps! :)

i think so! am still getting used to the flash drive.

@fsgd: Sorry for the trouble! It isn't clear what might be going wrong without some basic information.
File > New Login > Web ID is not something with 1Password. Is this maybe another app you're using? Also, since it sounds like you're having trouble with a specific website, be sure to include the URL.
Finally, please tell me the OS, 1Password, browser, and extension versions you're using, the exact steps you're taking, and what is (or is not) happening the way you expect. The more information you can give, the better. Thanks in advance! :)

Adding new login using a mac. Originally put this under a new discussion but have now decided that it would probably be better to admit to this one as then you can see my historic problems and how i have (not) dealt with them.
have a problem with a financial site, login is 4 stages.
1. user id which is constant but therefore needs saving. 2. dob. 3 selected letters from a password. 4 insert letters from a presupplied grid which 1password will not be able to do but how do i get 1paswword to do the other 3?
can 1password select letters from a stored password?0 -
have transferred this to existing thread. have no found the gear thanks

You can get 1P to do the first two stages (user ID and date of birth) because that information does not vary. 1Password can't help directly you with three selected letters from your password or (as you rightly say) inserting letters from a grid.
If the first two stages are on separate pages this knowledge base article will help you:
Using 1Password with login sequences split across multiple pages
Edit: @fsgd having just found your similar thread on the Knowledgebase Feedback forum I've moved it here and merged the two so that we don't all get confused.

Hi @fsgd,
I see that in all our discussions here, we haven't confirmed what version numbers you're using here. Having this information will ensure that we're giving you the most clear and helpful instructions possible.
have no found the gear thanks
In 1Password 5 (and 4 before it) this is where you'll find the gear icon:
