I have a sync problem on my Macbook Pro as between two user accounts.

I now have 1 Password on both my iMac and new Macbook Pro. Both licenses were obtained through the Apple Store. My original vault was on the iMac. The contents of that vault are syncing perfectly through iCloud with one of the user accounts I have set up on the Pro. However, that vault is not syncing through iCloud with the other user account on the Pro. In fact, there is no content on 1Password when accessed through that other user account. The settings are identical all around. Both user accounts on the Pro have administrator status. Why is syncing not taking place on the Pro when one of the user accounts is active even though it is occurring when the other user account is active? And what do I need to do to fix this? Thanks for your help.

@David Cohen: iCloud cannot share data between accounts. Rather, you'll need to have iCloud set up separately for each user, and only if they are both logged into the same Apple ID will they be able to share the same 1Password data via iCloud.

If that isn't an option for you, Dropbox Sync will be a better solution, as you can actually share data even between Dropbox accounts if you like.

Please let me know what you find. I look forward to hearing back from you! :)

Thanks. I switched to Dropbox Sync. But I'm having a related problem. 1Password on my iMac reports a total of 190 items, yet on my PowerBook Pro and our two iPads the total number of item showing is 167. When I compare lists I see that some things on my iMac 1Password list are not on the other device lists, and vice versa. So sync seems not to be complete or accurate. This problem applies to Logins, Secure Notes, Credit Cards, etc., and some categories I have on my iMac 1Password don't appear at all on the other devices. Any suggestions?

Whoops! It all seems to be coming through now following updates of the program. Thanks.

One more question (hopefully). Should iPhones and iPads be set to sync via Dropbox or using wi-fi? Is one preferable over the other? Thanks.

    Hi @David Cohen ,

If you're already using Dropbox to keep your user accounts in sync, I'd suggest using Dropbox to keep your iOS devices in sync as well. It's just simple to set up. ;) Of course, you're welcome to use Wi-Fi Sync if you prefer. It all comes down to personal preference, really.

I hope this answers your question, but of course we're happy to help with any further queries you might have!

@David Cohen: Sorry for the confusion! Dropbox sync can't occur in the background when 1Password for iOS is not running, so it sometimes takes a bit for everything to transfer when you open the app — especially initially.

I personally prefer Dropbox sync because it's fully automatic; whereas Wi-Fi Sync requires you to have 1Password open and unlocked on the computer before you can sync your iOS device. Often my computer is asleep or simply shutdown, but I can still sync my iOS devices with the Dropbox server.

And it never has to be just "one more question"; we're always here to help! :)

I thought I was all set, but now discover that even though I have Dropbox on my iMac and iPad (I won't even look at my iPhone until I get this issue resolved), I'm not syncing with my iPad. I discovered this by adding a "test" secure note on iPassword on my iMac but it doesn't show up on the iPad. Instead, I'm getting this message in Dropbox Settings on my iPad: "Problem loading 1Password data file." When I click on "key data file" nothing happens and I can't figure out what/where the problem is. Not being able to talk this through with you on the phone is frustrating. Please help.

    Hi David,

From what you've described it sounds like you may be trying to open your 1Password data through the Dropbox app or website on your iPad instead of in the 1Password app. Have you gone through steps in this section of the User Guide for setting up Dropbox syncing?

    Sync with Dropbox

I understand how this can be frustrating for you. We appreciate your patience while getting it sorted out and working smoothly!

I have installed Dropbox on my iOS devices, as well as my iMac and MacBook Pro. I get none of the screens shown in the linked document you provided me with (Sync with Dropbox). Instead, I get the message in Dropbox Settings on my iPad and iPhone noted in my post of July 19: "Problem loading 1 Password data file." As I noted, when I click on "key data file" nothing happens. Your post of today did not address the specifics of my post and I'm afraid was not helpful. If you cannot tell what my problem is by the information I have sent you, do you suggest I just start over? And, if so, how do I do that without losing my existing (and complete) 1Password vault that currently resides on my iMac? I need step-by-step instructions, not a link to some generic document that doesn't address my specific issue. I'm close to giving up on 1Password and asking for a refund of the 2 licenses I have now purchased. Your support setup, and specifically the inability to talk with a support technician and be walked through the setup process for syncing with other devices, is totally unsatisfactory.

    Hi @David Cohen ,

I'm so sorry that you're feeling frustrated here, and I'll do what I can to help get this straightened out just as soon as possible.

Instead, I get the message in Dropbox Settings on my iPad and iPhone noted in my post of July 19: "Problem loading 1 Password data file."

Now, I just want to be sure that I'm understanding the situation correctly. Like @sjk, it sounds to me like you might be trying to access your 1Password data on your iPad using 1PasswordAnywhere through the Dropbox app. If it's simpler, you're welcome to take a screenshot of this message, just to be sure we know where you're seeing this. To include it in your reply, simply click the document button in the top of the comment field, and select the file you wish to share:

You mention that you have Dropbox installed on all your devices, and that's great. But, do you have 1Password 5 for iOS installed on your iPad?

Again, you have my apologies for the trouble. The more specific you can be in your posts, the more quickly we'll be able to get you to a solution. Screenshots are often very helpful here, and feel free to get overly obvious as well: "I tap on the 1Password icon to open the 1Password app" for example. Doing long-distance support is always a challenge because we just can't see what you see, but we'll get to the bottom of this - don't worry!

Are these communications generally viewable or only between me and your team members? If the former, is there a way to communicate privately?
