Show folder/tags of items in 1P mini?

Sometimes I have different logins for the same website. One for personal, work or a client's login.

1P makes it easy to organize that with either tags or folders. But those tags/folders aren't displayed in 1P mini when you're logging into a site. Unless I name each site differently, the only way to find the right login is to manually hover over each entry and see what the username is.

See this image for an example.

I'd love to see 1P mini display the folder/tag associated with an an item. Folders/tags provide a great organization tool within the main 1P app. It would be great to have that same benefit within 1P mini.

A simple solution could focus on just folders initially (since there's only one folder instead of multiple tags). If an item is associated with a folder, that folder name could be displayed in 1P mini just below the name of the entry.

Just a thought. Would anybody else see benefit in something like this?

  • Hi @alextran,

    Thanks for taking the time to contact us!

    Naming each Login item differently is the best option currently. I personally use this system, and I know a number of our users do this as well. So your personal item could be named "Apple" and a work account could be called "Apple (Company)", for example.

    That said, I'll pass along your suggestion to our developers. Thanks for the feedback! :)

    @alextran
    Probably, I'm misunderstanding the issue.
    But... won't your Tags items named "Clients" and "Personal" already sort out such Logins ?

    1PMini initially shows "Tags" as the last item of it's drop-down list.
    Hovering on that item produces list of Tag items. (e.g., "Clients")
    And, hovering on that specific Tag item produces a reduced list of associated "Logins".
    Then, hovering on a specific Login shows all the details of that Login, including associated "Username", "Notes", etc.

    Granted, this route inserts one selection-step before getting your desired Login, but seems to be your goal.

    @Lamplighter hmmm. you know what's really weird?

    i didn't realize tags/folders were listed at the bottom of 1p mini because in my screenshot example it doesn't appear (for whatever reason). i visited another site and brought up 1P mini and do see the folder listed at the bottom.

    you're right, that will work (with a little more mouse movement).

    now the question is why doesn't the folder option show whenever i'm at apple.com?

    now that i'm playing around with the folder listed at the bottom of 1P mini, i don't think it will work that well.

    namely because it shows all logins for that folder. as that folder gets larger, it'll become harder to find the right login. if the folder option showed only sites for the current URL, then it would work.

    guess it's back to including a unique identifier in the item name.

    Maybe we are talking Apples and Oranges...
    My route was using Tags ("clients" and "personal") as the first filter, followed by drilling down to find the desired Login.

    You seem to be using Folders and you speak of "showing only sites for the current URL"
    As I said, I probably do not understand the situation, so maybe someone else can chime in for help.

    Hi @Lamplighter,

    I was chatting to one person recently and they had 20 different Google accounts so depending on the situation I can see where just filtering by tag or just by URL may not whittle down the list as much as you hope.

    @alextran,

    The one thing I suspect our designers and developers may be wary of is how to ensure such a feature doesn't mean 1Password mini starts using up a significant amount of the screen as a result. I do agree with you completely though, a way of distinguishing items with identical titles would be handy. One suggestion we've had before is to display the username next to the entry. That might be more useful than tags or folders in the sense that it would benefit everybody while not possibly alienating one group or another (some use only folders, some use just tags). I'd feel sorry if we could only implement one out of the two due to space restrictions and anybody favouring the other organisational method felt left out.

    What do you think about the idea of showing the username in some way, like how it works on iOS at the moment?

    Could that achieve the same goal as showing tags and folders or do you believe it wouldn't?

    @littlebobbytables absolutely. showing the username along with the entry name actually sounds like the most elegant (and simple) solution.

    +1 for me!

    Thanks for the feedback and +1, @alextran. I've added it to the feature request we have for displaying usernames with items, similar to how @littlebobbytables described. This would be personally useful for me as well, keeping duplicate item titles shorter that I otherwise edit to differentiate them. :+1:
