Logins Not Staying Current
I use 1Password on my Windows laptop at work and on my MacBook at home. For the first few months, when I made any login changes on the Windows PC, the logins on the MacBook also changed, and vice versa - everything was fine. For the last month or so, my Windows PC stays up to date on all my login changes, but when I open 1Password on the MacBook, it opens, but it seems to bring up older login info. How can I ensure the passwords on the MacBook stay current? Thanks.
1Password Version: 5.3.2
Extension Version: 4.4.1.90
OS Version: OS X 10.10.4 (Yosemite)
Sync Type: USB drive

Hi @eY75_nK6ui,
I see you sync via USB based on the information you've told us. Can you tell us a little more about your setup there please. The reason I ask is that 1Password for Mac and Windows are quite different in how they work. With 1Password for Mac you can tell it to synchronise to a pen drive using Folder Sync and it will do so in an intelligent manner as actually that's what Folder Sync was designed in mind with. It works because the Agile Keychain we use for syncing isn't the only copy - 1Password for Mac locally stores all vaults in an encrypted SQLite database file. 1Password for Windows though is more like 1Password 3 for Mac in that the Agile Keychain (or indeed the OPVault) is the vault and all reading and writing happens directly. Personally I prefer the Mac solution because the sync data is different from the vault and there are certain sync scenarios which I see as easier.
So I'm wondering how you handle things on the Window side. Do you only ever access your vault from the USB drive for example?
The other thing to check as well is to plug the USB drive into your Mac and see what 1Password for Mac reports in the Sync tab of 1Password's preferences. You can't check without the USB drive being plugged in though due to a certain quirkiness of how it works (we essentially disable Sync when the removable drive isn't present).
If you can let us know those two bits of information and hopefully we can get to the bottom of this

First, let me say that terms such as "Folder Sync", "SQLite database", and "OPVault" are not part of my personal lexicon, nor am I inclined to do the reading to understand what they mean. I would just like to know what steps to try to get 1Password working again.
Regarding my setup, the only thing I recall when installing 1Password is that I indicated the sync would be with my USB drive. For the first few months, I did nothing but insert the USB into the Windows laptop or the MacBook, log into 1Password, and the passwords stayed current.
As you suggested, I plugged the USB drive into my Mac. In the Sync tab, under "Vaults", it shows "Primary" and next to "Sync Primary Vault With", the box shows "None". Beneath that is the statement, "Last synced: 10 weeks ago". If I try to change "None" to "Folder", a box appears stating, "Disabling Sync: 1Password will no longer sync with folder". That is where I stopped.
I look forward to your reply. Thanks.

Hi @eY75_nK6ui,
Sorry for any confusion about those terms! littlebobbytables was giving you some extra information about the difference in how sync works in the Mac and Windows versions of 1Password in case you were curious - but don't worry, you won't need to understand what "SQLite database" or "OPVault" mean in order to fix this sync problem.
"Folder Sync" is the option in 1Password for Mac that is used to sync your data to/from a USB drive. Normally, when the USB drive is connected, the Sync preferences will show "Folder" as well as the file path for the .agilekeychain file on the USB drive. When the USB drive is disconnected, the Sync preferences will show "None" (Folder sync is technically still enabled, but temporarily shows "None" until the USB drive is reconnected).
However, if the USB drive is connected but the Sync preferences still show "None", and trying to change that back to "Folder" gives you an (admittedly confusing) message that it will no longer sync with the folder, that means 1Password can no longer find the .agilekeychain file where it expects to find it on the USB drive. That could happen if the .agilekeychain file was deleted, or if it was simply moved to a different location on that drive.
So the first thing you'll want to do is open that USB drive on your Mac and make sure the .agilekeychain file is still there somewhere. Assuming you find it, go ahead and follow these steps:
- Open 1Password and go to File > Backup to make a fresh backup of your data (just as a precaution).
- Go to Preferences > Sync (select Primary if there are multiple vaults listed).
- Change the drop-down menu from None to Folder, then click the Disable Sync button (do not choose to delete the data).
- Click the Choose button, then select the .agilekeychain file on the USB drive (and click Open).
- Click Merge With Existing (enter your master password if prompted).
Does that help? Let us know how it goes up to this point. If you run into any trouble with that, just let us know what happens. Thanks!
