Migrating data from V3 to V5 -- this has already taken way too long
I want to know how to quickly migrate my data from V3 to V5. I am tired of wasting time on this, I've spent way too long on it already. It should be automatic, If I can't do it fast - and I've been using computers for over 30 years -- then I want my money back on your 30 day return policy, and I'll find a different password manager that isn't going to waste my time. And how am I supposed to contact you so you can make good on your 30-day return policy.

Hi @keving,
Thanks for taking the time to contact us! Sorry for the trouble.
If 1Password 5 wasn't able to locate your existing vault automatically, please give this a try:
Click the "I've used 1Password before" button when you first launch 1Password 5.
After you click "I've used 1Password before", please choose the "This Mac" option.
Then click the "Choose folder" button to locate your existing Agile Keychain (
.agilekeychain
) bundle.- These are the two most common locations for your keychain:
~/Dropbox/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain
~/Library/Application Support/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain
Please let us know if you have any other questions. We're always happy to help! :)

Thanks for getting back to me so fast. I am getting somewhere -- it found a data file to upgrade, but it found the wrong one. I've been trying to get it to recognize the right one, but at this point I think it's too late for me to be doing this; the hour probably explains a good deal of my peevishness.
I'll report back tomorrow after I've gotten some sleep. lol

Hmmm... I'm not getting the "I'm new to 1Password" / "I've Used One Password Before" window when I start it up. How do I re-initialize it so that shows up? Thx.

Hi @keving,
If you've unlocked a vault, which I'm guessing is what you did to discover it wasn't the right one, then you will want our How do I start over with an empty vault? guide. The steps differ slight depending on whether you're running the AgileBits Store or Mac App Store version of our application as the location of the support files differs.
Hopefully with this new information, and the ability to test another vault, you will be able to complete the migration process and get back to a more stress-free life. Keep us updated!

Seems like the right and easier way to do it is just re-init the application so it shows the "I'm new to 1Password" / "I've Used One Password Before" window I mentioned before your post. Thanks.

Hi @keving,
Perhaps we misunderstood what you meant - it sounded like you had setup 1Password 5 on your Mac by choosing & unlocking the wrong .agilekeychain. In that case, opening the 1Password 5 app would ask you for the master password for that vault each time (with no other options), and in order to start over so you can set it up with a different data file, you would need to follow the "starting over" steps that littlebobbytables mentioned.
However, if you didn't complete the setup, 1Password 5 should either give you the "I'm new to 1Password" / "I've Used One Password Before" buttons, or it will tell you it found existing data and allow you to use that (by entering its master password) or to "click here to select a different option". If you see one of those screens, you'll be able to choose the data file from version 3.
From your message, I'm not sure if you already figured it out or if you need more help with that. If you need more help, please let us know exactly what you see when you open the 1Password 5 app, and we'll continue from there. Thanks!
