Old credit card CVC being populated rather than the new one

My credit card details have been updated in 1password however when I populate it into a purchase the old CVC is being populated.

When I review the entry in 1password I cannot see the old CVC so not entirely sure how it could be populating the old one rather than the new one.

Any suggestions?

Is there any chance that the data you are seeing comes from the web browser keychain, which hasn't been updated? Just a thought.

    Hi @brevell,

As hawkmoth said, you might want to make sure your browser isn't filling your old credit card information. However, if the CVC field isn't being filled until you use the 1Password extension, then it sounds like the old number is coming from 1Password, and not the browser.

In that case, is it possible you have multiple copies of the 1Password app installed on your Mac? If so, the browser extension might be communicating with the wrong one. Please take a look at this knowledgebase article for suggestions to find & remove extra copies of 1Password.

Does that help at all? Please let us know how it goes, thanks!

@brevell, just a quick thought - you should also find that credit card item in the main 1Password app and make sure you've saved the changes. If you didn't save changes, there will be a "Resume Editing" button where the "Edit" button would normally be. In that case just click Resume Editing, make sure the new CVC is there, and click Save.

Thanks @Drew_AG. Interesting thing I noticed yesterday was when using the iOS application I noticed an entry in there I couldn't see in the main Mac application. It was verification code and that had the old number and not the new one. In the Mac application I could only see the CVC code which was updated. Seems like 1password was using the verification code however I could never update it. Does that make sense?

    Hi @brevell,

Is it possible you renamed the default field verification number to CVC code at some point in the past? I ask as our now somewhat ageing sync container format, Agile Keychain, doesn't synchronise changes to certain built-in field titles like those. So that could potentially explain part of it. As to exactly what has happened here it's hard to say without looking at the item in more detail. It would seem the easiest and quickest resolution would be to create a new Credit Card item and copy the information over. Obviously that depends on how much additional information you've stored. We can certainly explore why this has happened with you but I'm guessing that just getting it working again is really the goal.

I am assuming you haven't added a custom field titled CVC code as unfortunately 1Password cannot fill using any custom field data. The reason is there is no way for 1Password to know what this data represents and where it should be used. There is a reasonable amount of code that deals with very specific elements of a credit card and the various ways we've found websites will ask for them and that's just for the mandatory components.

Let us know how you get along and/or if you would like to explore why this happened

Interesting, that makes sense. I'll create a new credit card entry and remove the old one. Easy fix. Thanks!
