Password unlocks vault on one computer, but not another....
Hi There
I'm running into a strange issue...
I have the password to unlock my vault. I'm using it right now to unlock my vault to see password on my computer. But when I try to set up a new 1Password install on another computer and import the same vault and it asks me to enter my password for the first time, the password doesn't work.
I'm confused... can someone help?

Hi @xiyan,
I'm sorry you're having some trouble with your master password on another Mac!
It looks like you're using Dropbox sync. So just to confirm, when you installed 1Password on the computer and opened it for the first time, did you choose the option to sync your vault from Dropbox? If it's the same .agilekeychain file you sync with on the other Mac, it should work with the same master password. Did you ever change your master password on the Mac where it's working correctly?
It might help to take a look at the suggestions in this knowledgebase article. Not all of those tips will necessarily apply, but some could be very helpful.
If it still won't accept your master password, please let us know and we'll continue from there. Thanks!

Hi @Drew_AG
Yes, using Dropbox sync, and yes your understanding is correct.
I am not sure if the master password has ever been changed because the database on dropbox is shared with other people. But I assume if someone changed it, I would have needed to enter the new password anyways?
Anyways, I tried it again, making sure I did everything right, still no joy.
Thanks

Thanks @xiyan! You're correct that if someone else had changed the master password for that vault, setting it up on a new computer should require that new master password.
You said that vault is shared with other people. Is it normally set up as a secondary vault on other Macs? The reason I ask is that each vault has its own master password, but unlocking the Primary vault will automatically unlock all secondary vaults on a Mac. So you just need to be sure you're entering the master password associated with that specific vault. On your Mac where the master password works correctly, if that vault is set up as a secondary vault, please try this:
- Open 1Password 5 on the Mac where the master password works.
- If it is currently unlocked, click the padlock icon in the top right corner of the window to lock it.
- Go to the menu for 1Password > Switch to Vault > [name of the secondary vault].
- Try to unlock that vault with the master password.
Does that work?
On the other hand, if that vault is the Primary vault on the Mac where the master password works, that same master password should also work when syncing that vault on your other Mac. But because it's a shared vault, there might be multiple .agilekeychain files in your Dropbox folder. When you're asked to choose a vault in Dropbox, are you certain it's the correct one? Are you asked to find & select the vault from the Dropbox folder, or does 1Password automatically find it and ask you for the password?
