[Feature request] LAN sync (wifi) for computers running Windows

I need a simple way to sync among all my devices, including iOS, OSX and Windows. Due to iCloud support is absent in Windows version, please consider to allow WiFi syncing as well as it works between iOS and OSX. Thanks.

(Dropbox is not an option due to network blocking.)

@scegg: Indeed, 1Password for Windows does support Wi-Fi Sync! Now, it's important to note that Wi-Fi Sync only works between a single computer and one or more iOS devices, as the computer functions as the server (and we don't want more than one of those in the mix). The Dropbox limitation is unfortunate, as they really do a great job of streamlining the sync process. However, if you're feeling adventurous you can actually use a combination of sync options to accomplish your goal I believe.

You'll need to designate the Mac as the Wi-Fi Sync server for the iOS devices, but then you can use Folder Sync on the Mac to sync data to a location of your choosing in the Mac's local filesystem (not a network drive, as 1Password needs an always-available place to write and read data on the device itself), and then use a tool such as rsync or ChronoSync to transfer changes between the copy on your Mac and on your PC (the way 1Password for Windows writes data by default is identical to Folder Sync on the Mac, so all you need to do there is choose the location on the hard drive).

I hope this helps at least give you some ideas. Let me know if you have any questions! :)

@brenty: Thanks for your reply. Using a folder sync is a good way to achieve syncing between OSX and Windows. But it also limited the iOS devices from syncing based on cellular network. Maybe I should wait for the iCloud support of Windows client.

@scegg: Indeed, Wi-Fi Sync has to be done locally. If you can live without iCloud for now, or use an alternative like I suggested in the meantime, that might be a good course of action.

However, I want to be clear that we do not currently have plans to implement iCloud Sync on Windows, as that depends entirely on Apple. Now, if that becomes a viable option in the future, we will definitely explore it, but I don't want you holding your breath waiting for something that may or may not come to pass.

P.S: Your profile picture makes me smile. Thank you! :chuffed:

@brenty: Yup. Understood. We hope iCloud will open more API on Windows, as well as it goes closer, more sealed I mean, on OSX... Or, maybe building your own data server is an option?

    P.S: Enjoy your smile, again.

All possibilities! I also hope we can expand sync options in future versions as well. Cheers!
