Vault Management
Hi there,
I have a feature request: I have an old vault that I would like to remove from 1Password for Mac. There is a menu option to Delete the vault, but this says it will completely destroy it. I would like to be able to close the vault without completely destroying it, and to do this from the GUI.
So while there are current options to Create and Delete vaults, I would also like the ability to Open and Close vaults. In this way, I can archive a vault I no longer use or need, but still access it again if I find I did need something from it after all.
Thanks,
Bryon

Hi @digitrance,
One option would be to synchronise the vault you don't wish to keep to the likes of Dropbox. That would create an Agile Keychain of the vault and then you could add the vault back at a later date using the Agile Keychain. That would work because when you delete the vault from 1Password it won't touch the sync container - that may be in use elsewhere and we don't risk assuming. Not as easy but all of your backups will also contain any vault you delete as we don't touch backups after they're created (to do so would defeat their purpose).
Would that be sufficient for your needs or would you prefer to see the vaults retained in the encrypted SQLite database file but somehow hidden?

Isn't doing a Backup, and then deleting the Vault essentially serving the same purpose? You have the old vault for reference if necessary, and it is removed from the currently interface when you delete it.
@littlebobbytables - I personally wouldn't recommend the sync approach as a means to retain a backup. It is an overly complicated mechanism (as a backup mechanism), that if botched in the slightest can render the entire sync data unusable. I think Backups should be stored in the simplest, most robust form possible (the 1Password Backup, or 1PIF). And sync data should be used for two-way relaying of information that can be recreated from the source. Just my thoughts.

Hi all,
Backing up and deleting isn't necessarily what I was looking to do. I've already moved the agilekeychain where I want to store it long-term on my Mac. I just wanted to remove it from the 1Password interface for vault selection since I don't need to access it anymore.
Thanks,

Maybe a Hide / Unhide Vault command might be a good option?

@MrC: Definitely not an option I'd be excited to see! I can imagine my poor wife hiding one and forgetting she'd done it, later wondering where it went.
And of course instead of "my poor wife" I should have said "my dumb self", as I wouldn't bet against me making the same mistake at some point. ;)

@digitrance: Indeed. This may be an option we can add in a future version. But for now you can accomplish your goal by making a copy of the vault for safekeeping and then destroying the other, which is "mounted" in 1Password. I hope this helps. Thanks again for the suggestion! :)
