Mountain Lion 10.8.5 on my iMac and iOS 8.4 on my iPhone 6
I'm running Mountain Lion 10.8.5 on my iMac and iOS 8.4 on my iPhone 6. I'm in the trial period right now with 1Password 4 on my iMac and am ready to buy. I'm a Final Cut Pro 7 user so I don't want to upgrade to Yosemite right now so here are my questions:
1) If I buy 1Password 4 now will I have to pay an additional charge when I upgrade my operating system to Yosemite in 8 to 10 months?
2) Do I need to pay an additional $49.99 for the iOS version 5.3 for my iPhone 6? Since it's not compatible with Mountain Lion 10.8.5 is there an easy way to get my passwords imported into my iPhone 6?
3) If there is an easy way to get my passwords imported into the iPhone, would it made more sense for me to only buy the iOS 1Password now and wait until I upgrade to Yosemite to buy the iMac 1Password?
Thank you in advance,
Rick

- The upgrade from 1P4 for Mac to 1P5 for Mac is free. Your licence will cover both versions.
- 1P for iOS is a free download from the App Store accessed from your iOS device—with an in-app purchase to enable pro features. If you make that in-app purchase on one iOS device you can enable the pro features without charge on any other iOS device that uses the same Apple ID. (The price you mention relates to 1P for Mac, not 1P for iOS. 1Password is licensed per person and per platform, rather than per device. You can read more about AgileBits' approach to software licensing in this knowledge base article.)
- You will be able to sync your 1P data between 1P4 on your Mac and 1P5 on your phone using Dropbox. In view of fact that the upgrade from 1P4 for Mac to 1P5for Mac is free you may feel there's little point in waiting to get 1P for Mac.

Hi @nopretenders,
Please let us know if you have any follow up questions or feel anything hasn't been answered by Stephen_C.
Just to clarify, when you purchase a 1Password for Mac licence from us you will be in fact purchasing a 1Password 5 licence that simply allows you to run 1Password 3, 4 or 5 on any Mac you own. I don't know what might happen when we release 1Password 6 but that licence you have will allow you to run any of those versions for as long as your Mac is compatible. Also, I don't know what the current price of the in-app purchase is but it isn't anywhere near $50 - that's just the desktop version to the best of my knowledge. I'm sure it's closer to $10 but iTunes will be able to tell you what it is in your own currency.
As I said, if you have questions please do ask

OK, I'm confused. I have a similar problem with one or two differences. I'm running OS 10.8.5 on my iMac and currently have 3.8.22 for 1Password. I've been able to reinstall the button on Firefox, but I'd like to upgrade to a more recent version of 1P. I gather v4 is no longer the newest but that it would work OK on 10.8.5. How do I download v4 in a way that doesn't erase all the passwords, usr names, etc., I've created?

Hi @bkatz,
No version of 1Password will delete existing data from another version. Let's take your Mac as an example. You have 1Password 3 for Mac running at the moment and that typically means it is either storing your Agile Keychain
1Password.agilekeychain
in either~/Library/Application Support/1Password/
or in Dropbox but only if you specifically told it to.Now 1Password 4 is a completely separate application and it can be installed side by side with 1Password 3. On first launch 1Password 4 will look to see if it has been run before and if it hasn't it will expand its search to the default locations used by 1Password 3. If it find data there it will import but not delete. It will also set up synchronisation so that any changes made to the Agile Keychain outside of 1Password 4 i.e. by running 1Password 3 are found as well as making sure any changes made inside 1Password 4 are pushed to the Agile Keychain.
So you can try 1Password 4 and satisfy yourself that the new vault it has created is correct before you then manually remove the old 1Password 3 from your system. If you have any follow up questions do please ask
