Locking 1Password

I'm a long term user of 1Password. The biggest irritation is having to enter my master password so often during the day. Why don't you give more choices for needing it? Users are quite capable of making rational decisions for themselves about when they want to close the app.

The more complex the master password one uses the more of a nuisance reopening is. 120 minutes maximum isn't enough.

Assuming you're talking about 1P for Mac (I'm a little baffled about the references to "120 minutes") and you're using 1P4 or 1P5, have you looked at your settings under 1P > Preferences > Security? There's a useful section about them here in the user guide.

    Hi @johnd39,

Please let me know if you have any further questions after reading the post that Stephen linked to, it should help! In particular, this Pro tip:

PRO TIP: If you disable all auto-lock settings, 1Password will stay unlocked all day long. You will only need to type your Master Password after a fresh log in to your OS X account. If you use a portable Mac, enabling only "Lock on sleep" means that 1Password will stay unlocked until you close the lid of your Mac. A convenient way to stay secure on the go!

There is no way to completely disable the entering of your Master Password. This is done in part to ensure that you don't forget it. Your Master Password is the only way to access your 1Password database, and we can't help you if you forget it. :)

That's excellent info and just what I need. Many thanks.

It should be in the user guide if it isn't already.

    Hi @johnd39,

That advice is copied right from the linked article. ;) We've got a pretty great documentation team working to ensure that everything you need to know about 1Password is at your fingertips on our support page. If you notice anything missing though, we'd be happy to write up some new material. :)
