Considering 1Password for a business

I work for am independent brokerage firm that is considering using 1password in the office and on the branch manager's home computers. Each device uses windows and he may be interested in adding his iphone as well.

The reason this would be helpful is we work with many different mutual fund, annuity, and life insurance companies, around 200 different sites for each of us to remember the passwords.

Some of these sites generate random passwords, some require security questions, and most need to be frequently updated.

Would 1password work for this situation? How would prices run, is it a one time or a reoccuring fee? And does every computer need dropbox or would we operate just from the browser?

Thank you!

  • Hi @SarahLancaster,

Thanks for looking at 1Password for your needs.

Each device uses windows and he may be interested in adding his iphone as well.

1Password is available to purchase per user per platform but we do offer a business seat (volume) license at our business store here: https://agilebits.com/store/business. Note that the mobile platforms cannot be bundled with the desktop platforms but Apple does offer volume pricing for businesses here: https://www.apple.com/business/vpp/

1Password for iOS is included for the volume pricing.

The reason this would be helpful is we work with many different mutual fund, annuity, and life insurance companies, around 200 different sites for each of us to remember the passwords.

Would you guys be sharing the same 1Password vault or do you want each person to have their own vault along with the shared company vault(s)?

1Password does support multiple vaults, so you can selectively sync certain vaults between departments as well.

Would 1password work for this situation?

Yes, it would. We have many companies using 1Password for this purpose. One thing that might be an issue is that on Windows, we do not have the concept of the primary and secondary vaults like on the iOS and Mac platforms. This means when you switch vault on the PC, you have to enter the vault password manually. On the iOS device, you can unlock the primary vault that would also unlock secondary vaults, making it fairly easy to switch vaults.

How would prices run, is it a one time or a reoccuring fee?

It is a one-time fee for the version you're buying and if in the future, new versions come out, you would only have to pay the upgrade fee to upgrade the license, not the full price.

And does every computer need dropbox or would we operate just from the browser?

Yes, every PC would need to have Dropbox installed to sync the vaults. However, if you only use 1Password on Windows without mobile devices involved, you can use your own syncing tool to sync the vaults between computers without using Dropbox.
