I never use the Mini app, so I was wondering if it is OK to turn it off?

You ought to leave it running—see this knowledge base article:

Ensure 1Password mini (a.k.a. helper) stays running (Mac)

@Steve_H: Essentially, unless you're simply not using 1Password in your browser, you'll definitely want to leave Helper/mini running, both for security and convenience. Frankly, I just find it easier to pull up some info with ⌘ ⌥ \ rather than opening the app itself anyway. Be sure to let us know if you have any other questions! :)

OK. Could you possibly give a few more details as to why? Mostly curious. Thanks.

brenty, for security and that little problem I fully understand (I had forgotten about that little security issue. Probably because I don't have any software installed other than Apple stuff and yours). Thanks again.

@Steve_H: No problem! Glad to help! :chuffed:

And just to clarify for anyone else who might be curious about the security concern, earlier this year it was shown that it is possible for specially crafted malicious apps to assume the identity of another (XARA exploit), and the best defense against this is to leave the app running (in this case, 1Password mini) so that another cannot take its place.

And as for convenience, well...it's just way more convenient to have 1Password save and fill login information than it will ever be to do it manually — like an animal. ;)
