Entering the wrong value for credit card's security code

When I use 1Password on my Mac to enter credit card information (for one of my cards) into a form on Safari, it enters the wrong value for the security code. I have verified that the correct code is stored in the credit card record (both main app and mini). IIRC the code that gets entered is an old code, but I'm not sure of that.
I see that someone else started a thread on a similar problem, but it was closed without being resolved.

    Hi @EdAnson,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us. I'm sorry that you are having some trouble.

Does the issue persist if you create a brand new Credit Card item? I'm wondering if the problem is specific to just that one item. To that end, does the problem occur with other, existing Credit Card items, or is just that one?

It seems to affect only the one card. But it just started happening recently and haven't had occasion to try another card.
CORRECTION: I just tried another card. It entered the wrong expiration date. This particular card has recently been replaced. I updated the expiration date (among other things) in 1Password, and the correct information shows when I display it. But the old value is entered into Safari forms. So this is two cards behaving badly in similar ways.

@EdAnson: Very strange. Can you view them in the main 1Password app and confirm that you don't have a "Resume Edit" pending there. If not, don't make any changes! :scream:

In that case, the best thing to do would be to use the 1Password Troubleshooting tool to generate a diagnostic report and send it to support+forums at agilebits dot com so we can look at the logs to determine exactly what is happening. Just be sure to include a link to this forum thread and your username in the email so we can 'connect the dots'. We will get to the bottom of this! :)

I also have the problem of an old security code being placed into forms. The correct security code shows up for my credit card when I view it from 1Password in either my iMac or iPhone. I use Safari as my browser. I had recently updated the security code and expiration date when my card was replaced. The new expiration date is used but not the updated security code.

I tried deleting the security code and adding it back to the card but that did not fix the issue.

Any update on the original posters question would be greatly appreciated.

On further research I believe I have discovered the solution to my problem. I had created a separate field called Security code and this value is not used to update the web form. The field labeled 'Verification number' was still populated with the old security code. The solution was not obvious since the value in this field is hidden until I manually review it. I updated the 'Verification number' field with the correct CVV and now it isproperly populated correctly into web forms.

  • Hello @TDoe,

The previous instance turned out to be non-standard fields which 1Password will ignore. Can you check for us please by entering Edit mode for the Credit Card item. The top section should have a field titled verification number and this is the field 1Password will use for filling. Does this field hold the correct value or does it hold the old one? To help this is what a blank Credit Card item starts off with, if you have additional fields at all they are custom fields which 1Password doesn't know to read.

Does any of that help make sense of your predicament?

I am good. After correcting the verification number field and testing, the correct CVV is being populated into the web form.

Awesome! Thanks for the update. I'm glad to hear that's what it was. You should be all set, but we're here if you need us! :)
