1Password 3 and 5 dont agree
I've decided to migrate to iPassword 5 on my Mac and iOS device. I was happily using iPassword3, until my Mac upgraded to Yosemite. Seemed pretty simple, I bought an upgrade from AgileBits and installed the iPassword5 app. When I run it it has a bunch of passwords in it. However, it seems to be a little out of date. I tried to WiFi sync from the iPhone running 1Password3, no joy. Oh well, I still have 1Password 3 on the Mac, so I synch 1Password3 with the iPhone, no problems. However, 1Password5 isn't updated. :-(
Now it seems I have both 1Password3 and 1Password5 with separate databases of passwords. Worse yet, the iPassword5 is out of date, and I need to get it to switch to the 1Password3 database before I can delete the old app from the iPhone and go get the new 1Password5 app from the app store.
How do I tell 1Password5 to sync with 1Password3 on my Mac?
1Password Version: 3.8.22/5.3.2
Extension Version: N/A
OS Version: OS X 10.10.4
Sync Type: WiFi

Fascinating. I got to looking at the passwords in 1Password5, and they were very out of date. I discovered, in ~/Library/Application Support a 1Password4 folder from long ago. Must have been a test I ran of 1Password4. That was the password database 1Password5 was using. Delete that folder, empty the trash, and start it up again and it found the right dataset. It seems to have make a copy again, because I have a new 1Password4 (sic) folder, so I've got to stop using 1Password3 to keep sync.
Now, if I could only make the font darker than pale grey (so I can read it) and make "show web form details" on by default, I'd be back where I was with 1Password3. Do I need to do something on the iOS side, or should I just delete the old app, install the new one, and sync my data back? It seems I'll forever have the 1Password 3 version as a "backup".

Hi @RSaunders,
I'm really happy to hear you were able to solve the problem on your Mac! Thanks for following up to let us know what you did. To help explain a couple things:
It seems to have make a copy again, because I have a new 1Password4 (sic) folder
That's correct - the 1Password 4 folder in ~/Library/Application Support/ was the data directory for 1Password 4 for Mac (AgileBits Store version) and is also used by version 5 because that was essentially written as an update to version 4. Sorry for the confusion about that!
Now, if I could only make the font darker than pale grey (so I can read it) and make "show web form details" on by default, I'd be back where I was with 1Password3.
Thanks for letting us know! I can't make any promises, but I can certainly let our developers know about your requests! Personally, I'd also love to be able to have "show web form details" on by default, since I look at those a lot and it would be nice not to have to click that button every time.
Do I need to do something on the iOS side, or should I just delete the old app, install the new one, and sync my data back?
Normally you would want to keep version 3 on iOS until you install version 5 and import all the data. That's because deleting an iOS app also deletes the data stored on your device for that app. However, if you're sure you have all your current 1Password data on your Mac, you don't need to worry about that, so you can delete version 3 from iOS before installing version 5 if you want to.
Once you have 1Password 5 installed on iOS, you'll be able to sync it with 1Password 5 for Mac using one of the sync options such as Dropbox or Wi-Fi sync. If you need help to set that up, just let us know.
It seems I'll forever have the 1Password 3 version as a "backup".
Once you have all your data in 1Password 5 for Mac and 1Password 5 for iOS, you don't need to keep 1Password 3, so you're more than welcome to delete it at that point. On your Mac, simply drag the version 3 app to the Trash (do not use any app cleaning utilities, since they might delete your 1Password 5 data).
If you have more questions about any of that, we're here for you! :)
