No, there is not a way to simply move a record from one category to another. If you think about it, this isn't very surprising, since the kinds of fields in each category are quite different from one another. However, this is a frequently requested feature, and I'm sure someone from AgileBits will be along to count your question as a vote in favor of implementing that ability. I have no idea whether it's feasible or not.

In the meantime, one thing you could do to help with making a new record in another category less trouble is to find the record in mini (the icon in your menu bar) and click the anchor icon to keep it on screen. From there, you can copy and paste the information you want to transfer into a new record in your category of choice.

    Hi @Mischugo,

Hawkmoth is correct - it's not currently possible to move an item from one category to another since the fields are different in each category. If you have an item in one category, but the information fits better into a different category, you'll need to copy and paste the data into a new item in the new category. Hawkmoth's suggestion should help you to do that, and we also describe exactly how to do that in a blog article:

Quick Tip: Migrate your details between 1Password items

Hopefully that helps! If you have more questions or need anything else, please let us know.

@all - Thanks for your support. I will help but it fits not my way to work :-)
In a reverse meaning it should be that all categories fits all items as necessary. May be in US or UK, but not in Germany.
And, when it is possible to change any item to that what i need, then it should be possible to give any entry a new category...

So, for my example at this moment, i have an entry that is saved in "Reisepässe", but the items ar more for a CreditCard.
I dont really not know, why the entries are stored there ...

But ist ok, i will copy and paste all.

    Hi @Mischugo,

Do you mean you have a Passport item that doesn't actually have your passport info, but instead has details about a credit card? If so, and you're not sure why, is it possible you imported data into 1Password from a different password manager? Different password managers store data differently, so importing from one app to another might not always work seamlessly, so that could result in an item being in the wrong category. Do you have a lot of items that somehow ended up in the wrong type of items?

Although I can see how being able to change an item's category would help in this situation, it's not something you should need to do again once you get your data into the correct categories. Any future items you create in 1Password would be in the correct categories. Adding the ability to change an item from one category to another would be a great deal of work for our developers, and it's a feature you would probably only ever need to use the first time you start using 1Password, when switching over from a different app. That's not to say we'll never do that, but normally it isn't the kind of feature you will need to use again.
