Bank terms and conditions

Hi,
I am interested in using 1password.
However I have contacted my bank (Lloyds Bank, UK) and they say that using external password software would mean that I would not be covered by the bank if anything were to go wrong and my bank account was inappropriately accessed.
They point me to their Terms and Conditions:
http://www.lloydsbank.com/legal/site-terms-and-conditions.asp?srnum=1
Point 8 Para 5
'We are not liable for losses or costs caused by abnormal and unforeseeable circumstances outside our reasonable control, which would have been unavoidable despite all efforts to the contrary, for example delays or failures caused by industrial action, problems with another system or network, third party viruses or malware, mechanical breakdown or data-processing failures.'
How can I use your software if the bank takes this position?
Thanks,
Charles Worth.

Hi @charlesnworth,
(Since your message wasn't related at all to the previous discussion where you posted it, I've moved it to its own thread. I hope you don't mind!)
Thanks for taking the time to contact us about this! I'm glad to know there are some people who read through terms and conditions like that. ;)
This is a really good question that we hear occasionally, and we have a knowledgebase article that should help to answer it:
Why would my bank discourage the use of a password manager?
We also posted an article on our blog several months ago which I think is closely related:
An open letter to banks
I hope that helps, but if you have more questions, please don't hesitate to let us know! :)

I don't see anything about those T&Cs that precludes using a password manager. That seems like boilerplate CYA prose.

++ That's a good point, and I also noticed it doesn't specifically mention password managers. In fact, reading through it again, I'm not sure there's anything in that paragraph which could easily be interpreted that way. But I'm not a lawyer, so I won't pretend to be an expert on that. ;)

I expect the bank just means that they won't support you if you use anything other than your fingers to enter your credentials. Whoever said that password managers violate those terms was just trying to terminate a call.

That would be my guess too. :(
Charles, if you have more questions about that, please do let us know!
