I have version 5.3 of 1Password installed on my Mac running Yosemite. I have visited the agile bits extensions web page and installed the browser extension as directed. However, when I look at my extensions in Safari, it says 1Password version 4.4.0. If I click the "updates" button, I get the error message "An error occurred while installing the extension 1Password".

    Hi @keymaster5,

I hope you don't mind, but it sounds like the problem you described is a bit different than the one from the previous discussion, so I've moved your message to a new thread. I'm sorry you're having trouble updating the extension!

From your description, it sounds like you're clicking the Updates button in Safari > Preferences > Extensions, which applies to all extensions installed in Safari. If that gives you an error message, that probably means this is a problem for your Safari extensions in general, not just 1Password. So this might require some troubleshooting for Safari extension issues, but there are a couple simple things you can try first, to see if they help.

First, try restarting Safari - that might be all it takes to get things working again. Just quit Safari and open it again, then see if the same problem happens.

If that doesn't help, try these steps to uninstall the extension you currently have in Safari (4.4.0) and then try again to install the newer one (4.4.2):

    • Open Safari and go to Safari > Preferences in the menu bar.
    • Click the Extensions tab, then click Uninstall for the 1Password extension.
    • Restart your Mac (important).
    • After the restart, open the following link in Safari: https://agilebits.com/onepassword/extensions
    • Click the big green Install button, and follow the steps on the new page to install the extension.

Please let us know how that goes for you, and if it's still a problem, we'll continue from there. Thanks!

Kinda embarrassing, but all I had to do was quit Safari and relaunch. Thanks for the help.

That's great news @keymaster5, I'm glad to hear that's all it took to get things sorted out! No need to be embarrassed - to be honest, I wasn't very confident that would solve the problem, but I mentioned it anyway since it's a quick & easy thing to try. I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that did the trick! :)

We're always happy to help, so just let us know if you need anything else.
