Hi @nachidas,
I'm glad to hear you'd like to upgrade to 1Password 5! We occasionally have sales, but we aren't currently having one for the Mac App Store version, and I don't believe we've had one recently. Is it possible you're thinking of the upgrade discount you can get if you purchase it from the AgileBits Store? You can go to our Upgrade Store and enter your license code to see your upgrade discount.
However, the AgileBits Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac doesn't have the iCloud sync option - that's only in the Mac App Store version because it uses Apple's new CloudKit technology, which can currently only be used by apps sold through Apple's App Store. If iCloud sync is that important to you, you'll need to purchase 1Password 5 from the Mac App Store - but unfortunately, Apple does not give us the ability to do upgrade pricing on the Mac App Store, so you would need to buy it at the full price shown there.
Please note that the AgileBits Store version includes Dropbox sync which is also a great sync option. It's how I have always synced my 1Password data, and many of my AgileBits colleagues do as well. 1Password is secure by design and your 1Password data is end-to-end encrypted, so with regard to security there's no difference between syncing 1Password data with Dropbox or iCloud. 1Password simply doesn't depend on the security of either to protect your data.
Dropbox also has the advantage that it can be used to share vaults with friends, family, and co-workers, whereas it's not currently possible to share anything between iCloud accounts. And it's the only single sync solution that works across all 1Password platforms: Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android.
I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you about that, but hopefully this helps to explain your options. If you have more questions, please let us know! :)

thanks for your detailed answer. very helpful. yes i was indeed thinking of the upgrade discount available from ver 3 to 5 on your site. i was just looking for a way to sync and not necessarily a Cloud sync.. so thanks for the suggestion.. i will use the discounted upgrade and use the Dropbox version. thank you again!!

I'm glad Drew was able to help clarify matters @nachidas and sorry we can't offer the same upgrade price on Apple's Mac App Store. We all use Dropbox here so we feel assured offering it as an alternative to iCloud. If you should have any follow up questions at all please do ask.
Just in case it should become an issue; due to its age, 1Password 3 for iOS (better known as 1Password for iOS/iPad or 1Password Pro) is quite limited in what it can synchronise with. You will find that if your iOS device is running the newer versions of iOS that 1Password 5 for iOS is available and supports all the same sync options as 1Password 5 for Mac. 1Password 5 for iOS uses the freemium model whereby the basic options are free and some of the features deemed advanced are behind a one-off in-app purchase that covers as many iOS devices as you have attached to the same Apple ID. I just mention it as I'm not sure what version of 1Password for iOS you might be running and better you don't get a surprise.
As I say, if you have any questions please do ask
