2 versions of 1password 5 - remove one [follow-up conversation through email]

Hi - I've followed some suggested steps and gone into preferences/sync for each version on my laptop running Yosemite. 1Password 5 (from the Agilebits store) says Primary vault = Dropbox and 1Password.agilekeychain. 1Password (from the Apple store) says Primary vault: None and under the Dropbox option last synced 8 weeks ago. How do I get 1Password from the App store to be the main version with all synced data? I also have a main Mac running Mountain Lion and Version 3.8.22 but that seems ok. My apologies if this is covered elsewhere - I have looked for this extra information. Thank you.

    Hi @Deborah Radford,

I believe this should be relatively easy to resolve. The first step is to ensure the AgileBits Store version isn't running and the easiest way to do this is to launch 1Password 5 and then quit it using the keyboard shortcut ⌃⌘Q - you don't even need to enter your Master Password.

If you then set up the 1Password (Mac App Store) version to sync to the same Agile Keychain it will pick up on all the differences and merge these differences into the Mac App Store's local vault. If your vault has been syncing to the Agile Keychain in the past there shouldn't be too much for 1Password to do.

If you have any concerns at all, then prior to setting up synchronisation pop over to the Backup tab and click the Backup Now button. That will create a backup of how things looked before hand. If you feel safer doing this I would probably recommend doing so in both versions of 1Password as that way you know no matter what the two vaults are retrievable.

Does that help at all? If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you. 1Password 5 has been removed and 1Password is now syncing via Dropbox. Does it matter that I've left Sync Primary Vault with 'None'?

    Hi @Deborah Radford,

Does it matter that I've left Sync Primary Vault with 'None'?

You certainly don't have to sync your primary vault if you don't want to. I'm curious though, you also mention that 1Password is syncing via Dropbox. Are you syncing a secondary vault via Dropbox?

    Hi Megan
I have 1Password 3 using Dropbox on my iMac running Mountain Lion so I'm unsure what to do to keep both versions in sync - hence my choosing Dropbox on my laptop running Yosemite. I'd be pleased to sync via my primary vault but I'm not sure how to - particularly because my iMac is my main machine. I appreciate your interest in nudging me in the right direction. Thanks!

    Hi Deborah,

    Thanks for the additional information!

Because your iMac is running Mountain Lion I wanted to mention that it's capable of running 1Password 4, which is more like 1Password 5 that you're already running on your Yosemite system. Would you be interested in upgrading, for free, from version 3.8.22?

While it is possible to configure Dropbox syncing between versions 3 and 5 of 1Password there are some minor inconveniences in version 3 that you wouldn't have when syncing with version 4. You'd also be able to use the same 1Password web browser extensions as you currently do on Yosemite.

1Password 4 and 5 are quite similar. The most noticeable difference is the main app appearance, with version 3 differing more significantly from both in appearance and functionality.

I appreciate your interest in nudging me in the right direction.

By now you could guess that I might be nudging you in the version 3 to 4 upgrade direction. :)

Please let us know if the version 3.8.22 to 4 (4.4.3, to be specific) free upgrade for 1Password on your iMac sounds good to you. Or if you'd like to stick with version 3.8.22 that's okay, too.

The choice is yours and we'll be here to continue helping you get 1Password syncing set up between all your Macs, including with whatever version you'd prefer to use on your iMac. Looking forward to hearing from you again soon – thanks!

    Hi Deborah,

Glad to hear you'd like to take the upgrade path! :+1:

What we'd like to do next is continue this conversation in email to help you with upgrading, then get syncing and anything else sorted out. To start that process, please use the 1Password Troubleshooting tool to generate a Diagnostics Report:

    https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/mac.html

Then attach that report to email sent to support+forum@agilebits.com.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, and do include a link to this forum discussion and your forum username (Deborah Radford) in the email so we can "connect the dots".

You'll receive an automated email reply from our BitBot assistant with a support ticket ID. Please post that ticket ID here and we can track down your email with the report more quickly.

The diagnostics will provide us with information about the current configuration of 1Password on your iMac. Then we'll be able to better assist you with specific instructions for upgrading and all the rest. :)

    Thanks in advance!
