1Password seems slow to open

Hello,

1Password in Chrome and Safari on my iMac 2012 running 10.5.5 use to open right away after entering the master password to log into a site. Suddenly, after entering the password, it takes about 3-5 seconds to open. Would anyone know what can cause this sudden slowness?

I'm running Chrome 44.0.2403.155 and Safari 8.0.8 with 1Password 5.3.2. I've tried reinstalling 1Password and its plugin, but the slowness is still there.

Thanks in advance.

I missed mentioning that this happens on only the first time I log into 1Password in the web browser. After that things seem okay until the next time I boot up my iMac and try to log into a site.

    Hi @1pw-user,

I'm sorry 1Password seems slow to unlock! Normally I would recommend restarting your Mac to see if it helps with something like that, but apparently that has the opposite effect. ;)

Can you please let us know a few additional details:

    • What version of the 1Password extension is installed in Safari? What version is in Chrome?
    • Does the same thing happen in either Safari or Chrome? After unlocking from one browser, does the same thing happen in the other browser at all before the next reboot?
    • If you reboot your Mac and try to unlock the main 1Password app (instead of the browser extension), does the same problem happen, or does it work correctly?
    • After rebooting your Mac, do you open one of the browsers and then click the 1Password extension icon in its toolbar? Or are you opening 1Password mini from your Mac's menu bar?
    • When you reboot your Mac, do you typically open a browser and try to unlock 1Password right away? If you do something else first, and then try the browser & extension, does it make any difference?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Drew,

    Thank you for the help!

What version of the 1Password extension is installed in Safari? What version is in Chrome?

    Chrome: 4.4.2.90
    Safari: 4.4.2

Does the same thing happen in either Safari or Chrome?

    Yes, both

After unlocking from one browser, does the same thing happen in the other browser at all before the next reboot?

    No, it opens instantly.

If you reboot your Mac and try to unlock the main 1Password app (instead of the browser extension), does the same problem happen, or does it work correctly?

There is no delay when opening the main 1Password app (versus the plugin in the web browser)

After rebooting your Mac, do you open one of the browsers and then click the 1Password extension icon in its toolbar? Or are you opening 1Password mini from your Mac's menu bar?

I click the 1Password extension icon in the brower's toolbar (not mini in the Mac menu bar).

When you reboot your Mac, do you typically open a browser and try to unlock 1Password right away? If you do something else first, and then try the browser & extension, does it make any difference?

No, I usually on click on the extension icon when I go to a site that requires authentication. I'm pretty sure it only happens the first time I click on the extension icon after visiting a site that requires authentication. The wait is actually anywhere from 5-10 seconds (not 3-5 seconds as mentioned earlier).

    Thanks!

Thanks @1pw-user! I don't know why this suddenly started to happen, but I think the best way to try to figure that out is to have you create a Diagnostics Report from your Mac: https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/mac.html

Attach the Diagnostics Report to an email message addressed to support+forum@agilebits.com.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum username so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so we can track down the report and make sure you receive a reply as quickly as possible.

Once we see the report we'll take a look and see if we notice anything that might explain what's going on. Thanks in advance! :)
