Perpetual Syncing with Dropbox and Local wifi server
Hello,
I am have in issue with 1PW perpetually syncing when trying to connect with Dropbox. Everything was working great for a long time when I noticed that dropbox kept notifying me of files updated. This was a constant notification on all 6 of my machines. It was always 1PW files. This was happening even tho all machine and mobile devices were not accessing the 1PW data.
I decided to start removing machined and devices from the sync process to locate the offending device. This is where the issue begins.
I removed the devices by setting sync to none. Got 1 machine up and running after doing a clean install of 1PW. Now when I try adding another machine via sync and pointing to the Dropbox folder the issue begins. Not only will it sync forever the machine is totally consumed by the process. Its painful to even launch a program due to so much lag. The very act of allowing sync render the machine unless.
Any guidance and advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Troy

Hi @Jonzinator,
I'm sorry you're having this trouble with 1Password and Dropbox sync! It's very possible that the problem is with the .agilekeychain file stored in Dropbox, which would explain why the problem continued to happen after disabling sync, reinstalling 1Password, etc.
In that case, and assuming you're using 1Password 4 or 5 on multiple Macs and/or iOS devices, you should be able to solve the problem by disabling Dropbox sync in 1Password on one of the Macs, deleting your current .agilekeychain from the local Dropbox folder on that Mac, and then re-enabling Dropbox sync to create a brand new .agilekeychain.
On your other Macs/iOS devices, 1Password will end up giving you an error about the sync settings because the original .agilekeychain is no longer available. You'll simply need to re-enable Dropbox sync on each one, making sure to select that new .agilekeychain file in Dropbox, and choosing to merge the data if prompted.
If you happen to be using 1Password 3 for Mac, or 1Password for Windows or another platform, please let us know as there may be a few additional steps you'll need to take. It's also a good idea to make a fresh backup from 1Password for Mac (File > Backup) before trying the steps above, just as a precaution. It sounds like you're pretty familiar with the sync settings in 1Password so I didn't write out all the exact steps, but we'll be happy to give more thorough steps if you'd like.
Let us know how it goes, thanks!

Hello Drew,
Thanks for the quick reply. I tried your suggested method, however it didn't solve my problem.
Here is what has happen.
On my laptop I stopped the sync, deleted the 1PW file from dropbox, turned sync back on and it rebuilt the 1PW file. It was odd however that the file what was there was 24mb and the file that was rebuilt was 2mb. All the data seemed to be there so I wasn't to worried.I then went to my tower that I had previously turn off sync and reenabled and pointed to the dropbox folder with the new 1PW file. This prompted me to merge files which I did. Syncing began and has not stopped in over 30min and has now once again rendered my computer so sluggish I have to reboot to regain control.
Thanks again for the advice.

Hi @Jonzinator,
Thanks for trying that and describing what happened! From your description, it does sound like something odd was happening with the old .agilekeychain file if it was 24mb, especially if the new one is only 2mb (which is more of a normal/average size). However, I'm not sure why the problem would start again once you re-enabled Dropbox sync on your tower. Has the .agilekeychain grown in size again since then?
To help us figure out what's going on, I'd like to ask you to create a couple Diagnostics Reports - one from your laptop and one from your tower: https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/mac.html
Attach the Diagnostics Reports to an email message addressed to support+forum@agilebits.com.
Please do not post your Diagnostics Reports in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email(s), along with your forum username so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Reports in our inbox.
You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so we can track down the reports and make sure you receive a reply as quickly as possible.
Once we see the reports we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance! :)

Hello Drew.
Here is the support # #SSR-65567-413To answer your questions about the file size changing. I was not able to complete the sync. Computer completely locked up and needed to be re-booted. So far the file size has stayed 2mb
Thanks
