Have I been missing updates
I upgraded 1Password on my iPod Touch to version 5.5 today. However I am still on version 5.3 on my iMac.
1Password
Version 5.3 (530029)
Mac App Store
It was last updated Oct. 17, 2014
If there is a more recent version of 1Password for the Mac, why isn't the App Store notifying me about it?
1Password Version: 5.3
Extension Version: 4.4.2
OS Version: 10.10.5
Sync Type: iCloud

@VictoriaDave - Version 5.3 is the current release version of 1Password for Mac. You can verify that you are up to date by going to 1Password 5 > Check for Updates... That will report that you have the latest version if you do, or offer a new one if you don't. Also, Since it would appear from the version number in your post that you bought your copy from the Mac App Store, that should notify you of available updates to all of your software that came from that source. You can trigger a check manually there by clicking on the Updates tab, but you will eventually get a notification as a badge on the App Store app on you Mac.
I'm not sure when a release of the next official update for 1Password 5 has been set. I'm running the latest beta (5.4.BETA-34). The changes to successive betas have gotten to be fewer recently, which might mean a release is near. But that is complete speculation on my part - I don't work for AgileBits, so I have no insider information to convey, even if I wanted to.

I also am using v5.3 and have updated my iPhone and iPad to v5.5. I version 5.3 there is no 1Password5>Check for Update option. So can Mac users get an update. The App store has not notified us since v5.3.2. Looks like we have missed quite a few possible improvements and security issues.

@jmartin - You haven't missed anything. You have the latest released version of 1Password for Mac, even though there is a version with a higher number currently in release for iOS..
If you want more confusion, the version on the Mac App Store today is 5.3, although at the AgileBits web store, it is 5.3.2. The changes to the AgileBits web store version have to do with that version only and don't affect the Mac App Store version. There are no functionally important differences between them, even though their version numbers differ slightly.
Sorry about my instructions for checking for updates. I didn't realize the Mac App Store version was missing that option in the 1Password 5 menu. (I have the AgileBits web store version.)
But you can force checking for updates by opening the App Store application on your Mac and clicking the Updates tab, like this:

I have done that and no update for 1Password is listed. Only System update I don't use (remote desktop and raw camera) are there. Any other suggestions as I am assuming that there have been security improvement that are not available to those of us who purchased through the App Store and not AgileBits web store. Thanks.

That is not correct. There haven't been any security improvements since version 5.3 and 5.3.2 for Mac were released. You have not missed any updates at all to the Mac version.

You can read the release notes to confirm.

Why are the App Store version and AgileBits version so different in the numbering? Is it only cosmetic differences?
Any idea when the two version might be the same or should I switch to the AgileBits web version? If so, how would I go about this option. Thanks.

There is very little difference in the version numbers between the Mac App Store and the AgileBits releases. 5.3 and 5.3.2 are very close. That isn't "so different."
According to the release notes, version 5.3.1 only "Added the ability to purchase 1Password licenses from within 1Password itself." Apple wouldn't allow that, period.
And version 5.3.2 only "Improved reliability of the in-app store WebView."
Everything else of functional significance is contained in both versions of the Mac application
Neither of those changes make a material difference in how the two versions function. There is a comment in another thread by an AgileBits employee (@brenty) that says that Apple would have tossed those changes out if they had been submitted, but I can't locate his comment, and I don't know anything about Apple's review policies. My paraphrase of what I recall that brenty said could be inaccurate.
Now, it is a common complaint among Mac App Store buyers that updates to 1Password do take longer by a few days to reach users than the releases on the AgileBits site. That's because AgileBits releases it as soon as it's ready, but Apple has a review process before they will release a revision on the Mac App Store. The lag usually isn't very long, but it is real. But still, the release of version 5.5 today for iOS has nothing to do with what the most current version is of the Mac application. This isn't the first time there has been a difference in version numbers between platforms.
There isn't any reason to switch to the AgileBits version, and if you rely on iCloud for syncing, you must NOT change over. The AgileBits store version has no access to the protocols for iCloud syncing, because Apple closed that option off to applications they don't sell themselves through one of their App Stores. But you can switch to the AgileBits version if you really want to. If you do, send your Mac App Store receipt for your license and a request to switch over to the AgileBits web store version to support+licenses@agilebits.com, and they will fix you up with a license for that version.

Hi @jmartin,
While 1Password for Mac and iOS do share some code in common, there is a lot that is only specific to each platform. Factors that can influence release dates include:
- Platform specific bugs or feature additions in 1Password.
- Platform specific roadmaps e.g. the release of the Apple Watch meant a new version of the iOS app that was Apple Watch aware.
It's only every so often the version numbers between platforms match up, even when as closely tied as iOS and OS X - there isn't any technical benefit to keeping the two the same. As you can see we even have a small disparity between the Mac App Store and AgileBits Store version and that's because all of the changes in 5.3.1 & 5.3.2 are specific to the AWS version - licensing doesn't exist in the Mac App Store version as the purchase is tied to your Apple ID. Switching from 5.3 (Mac App Store) to 5.3.2 (AgileBits Store) won't bring you any benefits but it would mean iCloud Sync is no longer available.
As long as you're running 1Password 5.3 for Mac (5.3.2 if you're an AgileBits Store customer) then you're up to date and either Apple's App Store application or 1Password itself (for the AgileBits Store version) will inform you when there is a new version available.

Thanks all who commented. The only reason I raised the question was because of the difference in version numbers between the iOS version (5.5) and the Mac version (5.3) and the date since the Mac version was updated on my Mac (last October). I had assumed (incorrectly it turns out) that there MUST have been a more recent Mac version since then. As they say, "patience is a virtue".

@VictoriaDave: I'm not sure what you mean. 1Password for Mac version 5.3 was released in April 2015, not October 2014. And we're not in a hurry to push out new versions. We like to test them thoroughly since we all depend on 1Password so heavily! And just to clarify, Mac and iOS apps are entirely separate, so updating one won't help us with the other. Apple won't let us put an iOS app in the Mac Ap Store — and for good reason! ;)
More importantly, if you're using the Mac App Store version of 1Password, you can actually switch to the AgileBits Store version at no additional charge. Once you've installed it from the App Store on your Mac, Apple's receipt for the app will be present on your system, and the AgileBits version will automatically read this and register itself! Now, you don't want to keep both, since that might cause some confusion for you, so check out this guide if you're interested:
Switching to the version of 1Password from the AgileBits Store
And of course as hawkmoth mentioned, we're also happy to give you a proper license for it as well if needed, provided you can provide the recipe for your purchase through Apple. And while there may be short delay in Apple approving updates for the Mac App Store, these tend to be very short compared to the more popular iOS App Store. Cheers! :)

Brenty, thanks for setting me straight. I had originally purchased 1Password from AgileBits but later purchased from the Apple App Store so I could do iCloud syncing. Recently I looked in the App Store "Purchased" area and saw the Oct. 2014 date, thinking that would show me the date of the latest update. I guess that is when I purchased from the App Store perhaps, and doesn't reflect more recent updates.
Of course, I should have looked in System Information > Software > Applications which does, of course, show the April 2015 date.
All clear now and everything is great with 1Password.0 -
Hi @VictoriaDave,
I'm glad to hear things seem clearer now, should you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask
