I'm having exactly the same problem with Firefox 3.9.20 add-on on my Mac. The beta add-on release only works with 1password 4 and above .... Help! (I don't want to upgrade as the later versions of 1Password won't sync all my devices together over wifi as 1password 3 does)

  • Hi @Kevin146,

Please read this guide (https://support.1password.com/v3-extension-firefox/) for your other options such as using Firefox 38 ESR build, 1Password 3 extension is simply not compatible with newer Firefox versions and it will not be fixed as we're moved on to 1Password 4 extension. 1Password 3 will continue to work in Firefox 38 ESR and other browsers you might be using.

(I don't want to upgrade as the later versions of 1Password won't sync all my devices together over wifi as 1password 3 does)

I'm not sure what you mean, 1Password 4 does support Wi-Fi sync with mobile devices. Can you explain what the issue is?

Hi MikeT, to explain; I have an Imac, a Macbook Pro, an Ipad and an Iphone. With 1Password 3, I can connect them all to the same wifi network and sync them all (requires a little fiddling - sync the Ipad and Iphone to the Imac, then sync them to the Macbook, then finally, resync them again to the Imac) Presto - the same data on all machines. I have tried 1Password 5, bit it will only sync one mac with any one Ipad/Iphone so it can't be used to transfer data Imac to Ipad and Iphone to Macbook. I had to uninstall it from all my machines and reinstall 1Password 3 on all to enable the syncing described. If 1Password 5 had worked the same way as 1Password 3 I would have bought it when it fiest came out for all my Mac stuff. As it doesn't, I've been stuck with 1Password 3.
As you will have guessed, I'm not interested in keeping in Sync using the net - look at LastPass's recent data hack and I think you'll see why!
If you have any suggestions, I would be extremely pleased to hear them as I have been a 1Password customer for years and I would like to remain so if possible!

    Hi @Kevin146,

You posted in the Windows forum, I'm assuming you don't have a PC in the mix?

I understand and we do want to improve the Wi-Fi sync to let you sync between your computers.

Right now, the workaround for 1Password 5 on OS X is to use Folder Sync in the Mac apps to put the 1Password sync file in the Sync folder for the sync tool to sync between your Macs. That covers the computers in your home network but Wi-Fi sync is limited to one computer to multiple mobile devices at the moment. That means you have to use one of the Macs to pair with your mobile devices but the sync tool will push all of the changes from the Wi-Fi sync to the rest of your Macs.

Thanks, Mike T. Sorry about being in the wrong Forum, Duh!! To answer the question though, I do have PC's in the mix but as I was never able to sync them in 1Password I don't use them seriously, I stick to Macs for everything other than gaming. Thanks for the workaround, I will have a go at using folder-sync to sync between my Macs, it is what you say though .. a workaround and not a proper solution. I will keep my fingers crossed that the next upgrade to 1password has a proper wifi sync system (which will help to keep it one step ahead of the major competition) similar to or better than 1Password 3. It is a shame that in some ways 1Password 5 is a retrograde step. Time and the developers will tell I suppose!
Thanks again for your time and help. Regards.

  • Hi @Kevin146,

    You're welcome.

It is a shame that in some ways 1Password 5 is a retrograde step.

The Wi-Fi sync was not working too well in the previous versions, we had too many issues and so we had to overhaul it in 1Password 4 with more changes planned for future updates. For many folks such as yourself, it worked perfectly fine but it was not worth the problems it was causing others. We prefer to have a solution that works for everyone despite the fact that our current solution does have some limitations we didn't have before. We certainly will improve this in the future.

  • Hi @Kevin146,

Just an FYI, I've split your posts from the Windows thread and moved our related posts into the general Mac forum here.
