New user to 1Password, help with importing

So I have a Windows based Password program that I am trying to get imported, I exported as csv out of the old Password program, but when I go import the file, the file dialog box comes up, the csv is not greyed out, I choose csv and Import as login, but clicking Open or Cancel does not work and I have to force close 1Password.

I would expect another dialog box to come up after selecting csv where I would perform a field mapping exercise.

Please help, Don't want to have to manually enter over 250 passwords.

    Manually reentering all those password would indeed be a pain; I did that myself and can't say it was any fun at all!

    Fortunately, a fellow user has developed some conversion tools that help most users make the move less painfully. Have a look here for how to gain access to @MrC's conversion utility. Let us know how things go.

    I did check that one out, however my Password program is made by AuthorDirect and is called Passwords MAX.

    Still don't know what the open or cancel button are not working, does the program inspect the data on open and not have an error routine to handle it??

    @jdlebla01 ,

    There was a bug in 1Password (since fixed in a beta release) where those buttons in the import dialog would not work. The keyboard equivalents did work, however, and those are Enter and Escape (for Open and Cancel, respectively). Have you tried that?

    Hi @jdlebla01,

    MrC is correct - this was fixed it in a beta, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, the fix should be included in the next update (although I don't have a timeframe for when that will be available). I'm sorry for the inconvenience! For now, the workaround MrC mentioned should work.

    If you need anything else, just let us know. We're always happy to help! :)

    Ok, thanks for the suggestion. I can confirm that the buttons operate with ESC & Enter. Please Note, I tried ESC before trying Enter to prove it worked. However on pressing Enter nothing occurred no dialog box indicating I had to do a field mapping from the csv fields to the 1Password fields. Did not give any details, error messages or anything.

    Again please remember this is on a MAC. I read in another post that the Windows version has a field mapping dialog box but the MAC didn't.

    The Header format is as follows:
    P_:Service P_:Name P_:Category P_:URL P_:Account P_:Password P_:Email P_:Pin P_:ExpiryDate P_:ExpiryInterval P_:LastChangeDate P_:LastChangeTime P_:LastPasswordChangeDate P_:LastPasswordChangeTime P_:Monitor P_:SecondsToWait P_:WindowTitleToLocate P_:WindowContents P_:DoNotRepeatSeconds P_:Paste
    Please advise.

    @jdlebla01,

    When you move a CSV or other delimited file between OS X and Windows, you have to be aware of line-ending encoding, as well as the character encoding.

    You also have to be aware of the requirements for the CSV columns for the target platform. On the Mac, there is no column chooser, however, you can import all the data as supplementary fields. See Advanced import: creating CSV files for the Mac requirements.

    If this proves unsuccessful, perhaps a Passwords MAX converter can be written.

    Ok of the 250 entries many had no data in certain fields, once I followed the format that 1Password expects and after eliminating all entries that had blank data I managed to get 211 imported.

    My inexperience with the tool definitely showed here, this should be more thoroughly explained that the tool expects an entry in each field (none can be left blank)

    At least a saved myself 211 worth of otherwise manual entries.

    Thanks folks, this can be closed

    @jdlebla01, I'm really happy to hear you were able to import all those items successfully! Importing data from another app can be tricky because each password manager imports/exports data differently. Luckily we have @MrC who is an expert on that stuff and has helped countless users to import data into 1Password!

    It sounds like you're all set now, but if you need anything else, just let us know - we're always happy to help! :)
