I thought 1Password for Mac is licensed per user. I installed the app on my Imac and would like to also install on my MacBook. Will I need to purchase an additional copy?

I just purchased a copy of 1Password ver 5.3 for my I-Mac OSX 10.10.5 from the Apple App store and want to also install it on my MacBook. I use the same Apple ID for both devices but am unable to download it to the MacBook without paying the $49.99. I thought that the app was licensed per user.

Download it from the Mac App Store using the same Apple ID as you used when you bought the original version. At least, that's the way to install it, but I wonder whether you're actually wanting to know about how to sync your 1P data between machines. If both use the same Apple ID you can use iCloud, otherwise you can use Dropbox. (Sorry if you didn't want to know that—just regard it as a bonus thrown in for free. :) )

@mmcgettrick sorry, I answered your first post—dealing, as we all do, with posts in reverse time order—and then promptly came across two more which seem to be on the same subject. I've merged all into one thread and it's really quite confusing to have three separate threads from one poster on one subject. :)

To emphasise what I said above, if you are logged on to the App Store with the same Apple ID there should be no question of you needing to pay again to download 1Password, so I really don't understand why that is happening. Please check that you are in fact logged on with the same Apple ID. Does the problem affect any other App Store apps (i.e., being asked to pay again on the second machine)?

    Hi @mmcgettrick,

As Stephen explained, you should definitely be able to install 1Password again on your MacBook without paying again. If your original purchase (on the iMac) was from the Mac App Store, then just launch the Mac App Store on your MacBook and make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to purchase 1Password, then you should be able to reinstall it from the Purchases tab.

As long as you're signed into the Mac App Store with that same Apple ID, you should be able to install 1Password (as well as your other Mac App Store purchases) on as many Macs as you want. Stephen had a great suggestion, which is to see if the rest of your Mac App Store purchases show up on the Purchases tab on your MacBook. All of the same apps should be listed there on both of your Macs.

Please let us know how it goes, thanks!

    Hi Drew_AG:

I appreciate all your assistance, but there still appears to be a problem with the Apple App Store and I'm awaiting their resolution.
The primary reason I wanted to purchase from the app store was the ability to use ICloud for both my devices, but until they resolve this problem, I'll just be using DropBox. Once again, thank you.

    Hi @mmcgettrick,

Sorry to hear about the problems with the App Store that you're running into! Hopefully Apple will be able to help clear that up quickly. In the meantime, Dropbox sync should work well for you, and if you have questions about that or need help with something else, please let us know. :)
