Do I need to buy a separate version of 1Password for my iBook if I already own a version for iPad?

I think the above question states the whole issue. My wife uses 1Password on her mobile devices and wants to use it also on her laptop. Can she do that with what she already owns, or does she need to buy something more?

1P for Mac and 1P for iOS are completely separate products. In other words, if your wife needs 1P for Mac she has to buy it. The cost of it has nothing to do with whether or not she has 1P for iOS.

1Password is licensed per person and per platform, rather than per device. You can read more about AgileBits' approach to software licensing in this knowledge base article.

Your wife can buy 1P for Mac either from the Mac App Store or direct from the AgileBits store. There are two things to bear in mind:

    1. If she ever wants to use iCloud to sync 1P data between her Mac and iOS devices she must buy 1P from the Mac App Store because the version from the AgileBits store doesn't support iCloud sync (following changes made by Apple on the launch of OS X Yosemite). Both versions support sync of 1P data by either local wifi or Dropbox.
    2. If she has owned an earlier version of 1P for Mac she may be entitled to an upgrade discount if she buys from the AgileBits store. That discount won't be available if she buys from the Mac App Store.

    Hi @Jimmy9,

It looks like Stephen gave you a great answer, I really don't have anything to add! (I also noticed you asked us about this several months ago in another forum discussion, but not sure if you saw the answers there or not.)

If you have more questions, just let us know! :)
