How can I reduce the size of my (3.7 GB) 1password container file?
I gather that the com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper file on my mac should be substantially smaller than the 3.7 GB it's sitting at on my machine, but I'm not entirely sure why it would be that large - I've got all of 275 items saved, and don't believe I've actually got any files in there, beyond a handful of relatively small secure notes. Would love to cut that back down to the 100-200 MB neighbourhood I've seen mentioned elsewhere, so any help identifying the cause of bloat would be much appreciated, if the size sounds out of step with what you might expect!

I think it would be helpful if you'd tell us:
- What version of 1P for Mac you are using
- Whether you sync your 1P data to any other device and if so to what device
- If relevant, what sync method you use to sync your 1P data (Dropbox, iCloud or wifi)
I assume when you say:
don't believe I've actually got any files in there
you mean you have no attachments to any of your 1P items. Is that correct?
Assuming you're using 1P4 or 1P5 and, as a matter of interest, if you go to 1P > Preferences > Backup and then Show Files what is the size of the most recent backup file shown in Finder?

Aha, apologies about the omitted version/system info - I'd entered all that originally, but had to reload the query form, and didn't notice those details weren't saved with the draft.
I'm using the following:
1Password
Version 4.4.1 (441006)
Mac App StoreExtensions: Chrome 4.4.3.90 and Firefox 4.4.2
I synch via Dropbox with an iphone and ipad, although I haven't used the app on either device in ages.
So all that said, yeah, I meant that I didn't believe I had any attachments to 1P items. And on checking the backup log, the most recent file is only 359K, with the largest older one only 100ish K more. So I assume the culprit isn't an over-large backup?
Digging around more carefully in the files, it seems like the largest file is the 3.2 GB "1Password Helper.log", if that helps narrow things down.
Thanks for the quick assistance!

Hi @RobertChang,
I'm sorry that log file has grown so big! But that definitely helps to know which specific file is the problem. You can follow these steps to safely delete that log file:
- Open the main 1Password app on your Mac.
- While holding the
control
key on your keyboard, go to the menu for 1Password > Quit 1Password and 1Password mini. - Delete the 3.2 GB log file.
- Open the main 1Password app again.
Hopefully it was just a one-time issue, but if it grows quickly to a large size again, that would indicate a larger issue, so please let us know if that happens and we'll take some further steps to see what's causing that. Thanks!

Great to know, thanks - glad there's a simple solution, and I'll certainly keep an eye on it. Just popped out at me while I was doing some drive cleanup, and seemed mystifying enough to check.

@RobertChang, a log file that big would certainly have caught my attention too! ;) If that happens again after deleting the log, just let us know.
