what is the difference between 1password on my mac desktop and on my phone. I just paid $50 for the app on my phone. It's not on my phone, but I bought it in the app store. I have it on my desktop and have been using it even though it says my trial has expired. Is that going to cost ANOTHER $50? confused. seems a lot of money.

No, you do not have to pay another $50, but things have got a bit confused.

1PW is sold per platform, so the Mac version and the iOS version are different purchases. And the Mac version is sold both direct from AgileBits and through Apple's App Store.

Apple confuses things by describing both their store for Mac apps and their store for iOS apps as App Store, though they are different.

If you paid $50 that would be the purchase of the Mac version, which from what you said you purchased on the Mac App Store. But the version saying "trial expired" is the version direct from AgileBits.

Best thing is to trash the version you have (make sure it is not running by pressing control-command-Q (not just Command-Q). Then go the App Store on your Mac and download it from there. That should get things working.

Then for your iPhone, go to the iOS App Store and download that version, which is free. If you want to, at some later point you can make an in-app purchase of Pro features, which add some functions.

Hope this helps. We can give you more detailed advice if necessary.

    Hi @frankielou,

Danco's answer is spot-on, and I think that explains what happened. The Mac version of 1Password is sold through the Mac App Store and the AgileBits Store, but licensing works differently for each one. If 1Password is telling you the trial is expired, you have the AgileBits Store version installed on your Mac (which can be downloaded from our site for free and used in trial mode). If you purchased 1Password from the Mac App Store, you'll need to launch the Mac App Store, make sure you're signed in with the Apple ID you used to purchase 1Password, then install it from the Purchases tab. This knowledgebase article has some additional information that might help: Switching to the version of 1Password from the Mac App Store

As Danco said, 1Password 5 for iOS is a free download, and offers free basic features. If you would like to unlock the Pro Features in 1Password 5 for iOS, you can do so with an in-app purchase.

Please do let us know if you have more questions about that or need anything else - we're always happy to help!
