do I really want to use iCloud sync?
I'm about to install 1 Password (after lots of very helpful exchange with support-Thank you!), but still am unsure which version to buy.
What would be easiest (regarding entering my data)?? Buy from Apple, or Agilebits? Would there be a difference.
All of my devices are within the Apple ecosystem and use Keychain Access. I turned on iCloud Keychain a few weeks ago, but it is still waiting for "approval" from another of my Macs or devices. If I buy the App store version and use iCloud sync, will my current logins sync more seamlessly than if using DropBox (and the Agilebits store version)? OR, am I potentially asking for trouble by not using the Agilebits version, (which they can control, vs. the version at at the app store)?
Thanks.
Jeff

Maybe the place to start is with this knowledge base article:
Should I buy 1Password from the AgileBits Store or the Mac App Store?
That said everyone has their personal preference, I'm sure. Both iCloud and Dropbox have had problems (now resolved) over the past couple of days—but it was the second time it happened to iCloud within a short period. Personally, I use the AgileBits store version and sync my iOS devices by wifi. A lot of the AgileBits staff use Dropbox to sync, I know.
It's really your own decision. However, whichever version you choose there's no difference at all in entering your data. The key difference between the versions is the added ability of the Mac App Store version to use iCloud to sync your 1P data.

And I use everything. It's good to have options!

@jeff_feinman: And in that vein I'd say Mac App Store, simply because it's nice to have the ability to use iCloud, in case you'd want to use it down the road. But again, that's just me. It's really a matter of personal preference. Other than the lack of iCloud Sync, the AgileBits Store version is identical.
To be completely clear, 1Password (and other apps) cannot access your iCloud Keychain, if that's what you're asking. That wouldn't be very secure at all. However, on OS X using Keychain Access it is possible to export some data, and you can use @MrC 's converter to help get your data into a usable state for import into 1Password. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions! :)

An advantage to buying directly from AgileBits is that they offer nice discounts to registered users when paid upgrades are released. Apple doesn't provide developers any way to offer upgrade price discounts, so when you do want to move to a newer version that requires payment, you'll have to pay whatever the full price is on the Mac App Store at the time. So the version from the AgileBits web store promises to be cheaper over the long run. (Unless Apple finally does what it should about allowing upgrade pricing. And free trials.)

++ Thanks @hawkmoth! :)
@jeff_feinman, I hope this was all helpful! We're here for you if you have more questions about that. :)

Thanks so much. It sounds like the AgileBits version + wifi sync may be the way to go (that way no one else is involved and can interfere with my sync?).

Hey @jeff_feinman,
It's really just a matter of what works best for you, but like brenty, I'd recommend buying from the Mac App Store just because it sounds like you may be interested in trying iCloud sync someday, and it's good to have that option available even if you choose not to use it right away. Other than that, the two versions of the app are pretty much identical, and if you should ever need to, it's easier to switch from the Mac App Store version to the AgileBits Store version of the app than the other way around.
Regarding cloud sync vs. Wi-Fi, if you have 1Password set up to sync over Dropbox, for instance, and Dropbox has technical difficulties, then you can easily switch to Wi-Fi as a backup measure while Dropbox addresses the issue. Personally, I also like the reassurance of having an up-to-date copy of my 1Password data in the cloud, in case something happens to my devices.
Lots of great options, though! And whichever way you decide to go, thank you for becoming a 1Password customer! :)

Two AgileBits staff are recommending the App Store version over the direct version.
I would like to mention a reason to buy direct that I guess they did not feel they should say. Buying direct gives AgileBits all the money you pay, whereas buying from Apple means that Apple takes 30% of the price. I am glad to reward a company that makes such a useful product.

Thanks danco. What a great answer!
I'm heading over right now to buy from and better support AgileBits.

We appreciate that very much, @jeff_feinman. :) Ultimately, we just want you to have the version of 1Password that best suits your needs.
Here's a link to the user guide, just for your reference. And do let us know if there's anything else we can do to help you get the most out of 1Password. Cheers!

@danco: A fair point! It's not so much a recommendation as "this is what I would do". But we're grateful for the support of our customers, regardless of where it comes from or the particular dollar amount we receive. We love all of you!

@jeff_feinman: Except, of course, your network environment. Be sure to test drive it first before planning your life around Wi-Fi Sync. We're happy to help in any way we can, but for some folks getting their Wi-Fi setup working in the first place can be a struggle. Thanks so much for your support! :chuffed:
