1password populating using old information

I'm experiencing wrong information when populating fields with 1Password. More than one time the Extension is using old (!) information that's NOT in my current vault.

Yesterday this happened when logging in to a regular site. The password didn't match the password in the vault, and I had to manually copy and paste the information into the browser.

Today it happend when entering my credit card information. 1Password fetched my old information (just updated my card) and I had to manually copy and paste the informatin into the browser.

What is causing this?

In my application folder I have 1Password and 1Password 5 – do I need them both? Can that be what's causing this issue?

1Password Version: 5.3.2
Extension Version: 4.4.4.3.9
OS Version: 10.10.5
Sync Type: Dropbox

@martinlofqvist: That is very strange indeed. There may be a few things going on here, but my first question is do you have an old version of 1Password that you're also syncing with? I see you're using Dropbox, and if my hunch is correct, you're probably running into this issue because the old version does not understand the new features.

Regarding your question about multiple copies of 1Password, have you been using both the AgileBits Store version and the Mac App Store version? I don't see a record in our system under this email address, so perhaps you purchased from the Mac App Store and then also mistakenly downloaded 1Password from our website. Is that the case?

Please tell me all OS, 1Password, and device versions you're using so we can figure out the best plan of action. Thanks in advance! :)

    Hi!

    Ok, let's see here.
Regarding devices this is my setup:

    iPhone 5, running 1Password
Macbook Pro (Late 2012), I believe running 10.10.5, and 1Password 5 with extension for Safari. (I do not have access to this computer right now)
Mac Pro (Late 2013), running 10.10.5 and 1Password 5.3.2 with extension for Chrome.

Everything I have described here is using the Mac Pro.

In my applications folder I can find two versions of 1Password: one is called 1Password 5 (5.3.2) this is what's being launched when I open the app. The other one i just called 1Password, version 5.3, is this the little one residing in the top of the screen?

I'm not quite sure where I downloaded 1Password from, although it seems that I bought it from the Mac App Store (it says 'Open' instead of 'Buy' when I browse 1Password). The license I'm running is set out to Kassandra Smith at Reform Act, it's a company license valid for 14 people on as many computers as necessary, it says.

My hunch is that it's not a matter of sync, because I do have the correct information in the vault on all devices, it just won't populate the new corect information.

    Hi @martinlofqvist,

Thanks for the information! The problem is that you have two different versions of 1Password installed at the same time. 1Password 5.app (version 5.3.2) is the AgileBits Store version that can be downloaded from our website, and it sounds like you're using a company license for that. 1Password.app (version 5.3) is the Mac App Store version, so it sounds like you purchased that from the Mac App Store at some point.

The Mac App Store and AgileBits Store versions of 1Password each keep a separate database on your Mac, so apparently one of those has older data, and it sounds like that's the one the browser extension is connecting to. This should be pretty easy to fix, but you'll need to figure out if one version has all of your current 1Password, and also decide which version you want to continue to use on that Mac.

To start, check each version of 1Password to see what information is in each vault. If one version has all of your current data, that makes things a bit easier. But if you've added or updated different items in each version (so each one has data the other doesn't have), we'll need to take a few extra steps to get all your up-to-date info into the version you want to continue using.

As for which one to continue using, that's really up to you. The main difference is that only the Mac App Store version has the iCloud sync feature. But it looks like you're using Dropbox sync, so that's probably not a concern for you.

Like I said, it should be easy to get this all untangled, but the steps will be slightly different depending on where you have your current/latest data, and which app you want to continue using. Let us know what you find, and we'll continue from there. Thanks!

    Hey @Drew_AG

    Okey, of course. Thanks.

"1Password.app" (version 5.3) launches a welcome screen – so I guess I can delete that without interfering with the database?

    Hi @martinlofqvist,

That's interesting, I'm a little surprised you see a welcome screen when you launch the Mac App Store version (1Password.app). Is that the screen that has an "Awesome! Let's Get Started" button in the lower right corner? If so, try clicking that button - what happens next?

If the Mac App Store version is acting like it's the first time you've opened it, my guess is that you've been using the AgileBits Store version (1Password 5.app) to add or edit all your data. If you open 1Password 5.app, does that seem to have all your latest data? If so, you can delete the Mac App Store version (1Password.app), but please follow these steps to do that:

    • Open 1Password.app on your Mac.
    • Hold the Control key on your keyboard and go to the menu option for 1Password > "Quit 1Password and 1Password mini".
    • Drag the 1Password.app file to the Trash (do not use any app-cleaning tools).

Next, please check the following setting in the AgileBits Store version:

    • Open 1Password 5.app on your Mac and go to the menu for 1Password > Preferences.
    • Click the General tab.
    • Make sure the option for "Always keep 1Password Mini running" is enabled.

Now try the 1Password extension in your browser again. Does it show your newer data? If for some reason it still shows the older data, please restart your Mac, then check it again. Let us know how it works out for you!

    OK.
    Let's see here:

When I open upp 1Password.app, I get the Welcome screen, when clicking "Awesome! Let's Get Started" (In swedish tho :), it opens up the 1Password app with a vault containing old information. (Log in information I have changed etc.)

I've followed your steps and it seems like the browser extension is now using the newer data. I guess this solves it! Thank you for the help!
