Hello,

Is there a way trigger a sync (on iCloud). I don't see anything under Preferences > Sync to do that

The iOS client has this under Settings > Sync

thanks.

Apple controls the timing of iCloud syncing. There isn't a way for the user to control that.

OK, but it appears to be possible from iOS (see attachment)

    Hi @kr12,

You bring up a great point/question! The short answer is that the iOS version of 1Password doesn't really need to have that Sync Now button for iCloud sync.

The reason that button is there for iCloud sync on iOS is basically because it's also there for the other sync options (Dropbox and Wi-Fi). However, it's no longer really necessary for those sync options to have it, either. The Sync Now button is more or less a leftover feature from older versions. Just to be clear - that button still works, but it isn't needed because sync happens automatically on a regular/frequent basis.

On iOS, a sync is triggered in 1Password when you launch/unlock it, change items (add, edit, delete), or switch vaults. If iCloud sync is being used, a sync is also triggered when CloudKit tells 1Password that changes are available (i.e. if you make a change from another device). If Dropbox sync is being used, a sync is also triggered after a certain time period if nothing else triggers it.

Therefore, there shouldn't normally be much of a reason to need to use the Sync Now button. You can certainly try it if you think the sync isn't working, but if isn't happening automatically, there might be a larger sync issue that needs to be addressed.

I hope that helps, but if you have more questions or need anything else, please let us know. :)

    Hi @Drew_AG

Thanks for the explanation - that helps. FWIW, it took many (10's) of minutes for an update made in iOS to work its way to MacOS today. Later in the day, the reverse operation was very quick. Maybe a quirk related to running beta s/w on my mac - or a bad day on iCloud.

    Hi @kr12,

Maybe a quirk related to running beta s/w on my mac - or a bad day on iCloud.

Those are certainly possibilities! Unfortunately we aren't often able to tell exactly why iCloud sync might be delayed. It usually works pretty quickly though, so hopefully you won't run into a problem like that too frequently. If a delay like that happens again, you might try restarting the 1Password app, or even rebooting your Mac to see if it makes any difference.

If you keep having problems, we'll be happy to look further into it to see if there's anything we can do to help! :)
