Syncing on iCloud on multiple computers with different versions of OS

I use 1Password successfully on a Yosemite Mac and on an iPhone 6.

Now I want to add a Mac that uses 10.8.5. I downloaded the legacy version from agilebits. When asked to select a method to use to sync, I am told that 1 Password can not find any info on iCloud. When I check my iCloud account I can see that the 1 Password file is there. What to do?

1Password Version: 4.4.3, 5.3.2 (from Apple)

    Hi @derf423,

Unfortunately, iCloud sync won't work between 1Password 4 and 1Password 5. That's because the iCloud sync option in 1Password 5 uses Apple's new CloudKit technology, which Apple introduced in iOS 8 and Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite). Unfortunately CloudKit is not backwards-compatible with previous versions of iOS or Mac OS X, or with 1Password 4. We have more information about that in these knowledgebase articles:

I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you about that! In order to sync between 1Password 4 and 5 on your Macs and iPhone, you'll need to switch to Dropbox sync.

If you have more questions about that or need anything else, please let us know - we're always happy to help! :)

I thought as much :'(, thanks for the answer.

  • Hello @derf423,

Sorry we couldn't supply a better one in regards to iCloud. I don't know if you considered Drew's Dropbox suggestion but it has great cross-platform support and now cross-version support too. A lot of us here at AgileBits use Dropbox so if it's a concern over security I hope that might ease your worries.
