How do I sign in to a secure website from someone else’s computer?
Suppose I’m using a computer at a library and want to sign into my Gmail account. How do I do that if my password is in my vault?

Hi @mo75,
Good question! This is where having 1Password on an iOS or Android device would be really helpful, but if you don't have either of those, then you can use 1PasswordAnywhere if you have your vault synced to Dropbox and you remember your Dropbox login info. However, there are certain security threats to keep in mind when using 1PasswordAnywhere from a public computer.

I was thinking of using 1Password on my iPhone. Syncing with Dropbox is a good idea too. Thank you.

Should you have any other questions at all @mo75 please ask and we'll do our best to answer

Hey @mo75, one more thing: if you're thinking of using 1Password on your iPhone, definitely go for it. 1Password for iOS is a "freemium" app, meaning that you can download and use it for free, for as long as you like, with core features. When you’re ready to unlock 1Password’s full power, you can do so with a one-time in-app purchase of Pro Features. And this week, we're running an awesome sale that takes 50% off Pro Features purchases! So now would be a great time to take advantage of that. :)
And you can use Dropbox sync to keep the same up-to-date 1Password data on your Mac and iPhone. As littlebobbytables said, we can help you with any of that if you have more questions. Cheers!

Well, one more question then. Say I’m at the library and I want to check my Gmail on their computer. If I use 1Password on my iPhone do I then have to type a 36 character gibberish password into Gmail? What if I use Dropbox?

Hey @mo75,
In this case, you'd have 3 options:
- Check your Gmail on your iPhone.
- Login to Gmail by typing what you see in 1Password on your phone (the random 36-character password you mentioned).
- Use 1PasswordAnywhere to access your (previously synced) vault from www.Dropbox.com, and copy & paste the password into Gmail.
Choose your own adventure! :)

I'll probably go for #3. Thank you.

I want to make sure I understand this correctly: I set up a sync between my Macbook Pro and my Dropbox account so I can use 1Password when I want to go to secure sites on another computer, e.g., the library. In order to do that I have to open my Dropbox account on that other computer to get to 1Password Anywhere, so I have to remember my Dropbox password in addition to my 1Password password. Is that right?

Yes. The Dropbox password and possibly your Apple ID password need to be memorable for occasional use outside the 1PW environment. Diceware provides a good way of creating suitable passwords.

or if it's an option for you, i'd recommend using 1Password for iOS or Android.
that way you'll always have access to your passwords wherever you go. and no need to remember your dropbox password.

Hi @mo75,
I hope you don't mind, I've merged your post from today into the existing conversation we had on this subject from about a week ago.
You had previously mentioned possibly using 1Password on your iPhone (which is free!). If you really want to use 1PasswordAnywhere on a public computer, I'll suggest you use a Diceware-type tool as danco mentioned above, such as XKPasswd, to generate a strong Dropbox password from randomly chosen English words. Then, at the library or wherever, view your Dropbox password on your iPhone, and it will be easy to type in because it's real words.
However, if you have 1Password on an iPhone and a laptop, I'm not sure I understand why you'd want to use a public computer with 1PasswordAnywhere, rather than just logging into those websites on your phone, or bringing your MacBook Pro to the library and using the actual 1Password app on there. 1PasswordAnywhere does not function the same as the full 1Password app. It can show you your login credentials, and you can copy and paste them into websites, but it can't fill them in the way the app does, and using 1PasswordAnywhere on a public computer is not as secure as using the 1Password app on your own laptop.
I'd encourage you to read more about 1PasswordAnywhere in our knowledgebase to get a feel for how it's different from the full 1Password app.
Ultimately, as I said before, it's up to you to use 1Password however it works best for you. We just want you to have the most secure and most convenient experience possible. :)
