Buy Mac + Windows Bundle, use Mac later

Hi!
Only a small question. I wanna switch from Win to Mac in a few weeks. Is it possible to buy the bundled licence now and start to use the Mac version in a few weeks?
Or will I have problems when I don't start immediately?
Thanks in advance!

Chris

  • Hi @clefpac,

The licence will remain valid from the point of purchase onwards - there are no time requirements at all to activate it so nothing to worry about there. One question though, if it's only going to be a couple of weeks before you switch do you really need the Windows licence? It kind of depends on what a few weeks may mean but if you're switching I'd just hate for you to make a purchase that you only require briefly. If we're talking under 30 days you could use the trial period on Windows before you transition over to the Mac and then make the purchase. It probably sounds like I'm trying to talk you out of the bundle licence but more than the sale we want happy customers. Now if you can make good use of the 1Password for Windows licence afterwards that's fine

If we can offer any suggestions at all please let us know.

I don't know exactly what a few weeks mean. We will see... But after buying a Mac I will still have my actuel laptop. Don't know if my wife will use it or my kids, but we will have windows at home. So the licence wouldn't be only for the few weeks.
But thanks for the honest answer. And currently there are deals and I will buy a educational licence. So it doesn't make a big difference I think.

  • That's fine then @clefpac  I just didn't want to see you make a purchase that you may not get great value for money from.

Just as a quick reminder, when you purchase a licence that licence will cover you and five other family members in the same household for as many machines of that platform as you have. So the bundle would mean you're covered on both Mac and Windows for you, your wife and kids over as many machines as you posses between you

One additional question. When I switch I only have to copy my PW-file to my new Mac. I only wanna use wifi syncing. Or will there be a problem?

  • Greetings @clefpac,

I'm glad you asked. Now 1Password for Windows and 1Password for Mac are quite different at the moment. 1Password for Windows uses either an Agile Keychain or OPVault and accesses it directly. 1Password for Mac though only uses it for syncing. When the time comes you can easily move your vault across using something like a pen drive or similar. What won't be possible is to synchronise between a Mac and Windows machine using Wi-Fi Sync. Wi-Fi Sync is limited to between a single Mac or Windows machine and one or more mobile devices but it currently cannot sync between two computers.

After the move from the Windows machine to the Mac do you envisage wanting to keep the two in sync using something other than Dropbox? Due to the differences in the two platforms I would strongly encourage the use of Dropbox when syncing between them, literally just for your sanity. Between two Macs you could use a pen/flash drive but this breaks down if you introduce 1Password for Windows into the mix.

    Does that help at all?

Yes, it helps. No, i'm planning to switch and won't sync the two after that. I only wanna take my passwords with me. So I think everything will work like it should. I copy my vault to my Mac and that's it. Syncing is only planned between my laptop and my mobil devices.
Ok, thank you for all your help!
    Have a nice day!

  • Hi @clefpac,

So just to let you know, when that day comes you'd want to copy across your Agile Keychain or OPVault and then our page, Using existing 1Password data on a new computer (Elsewhere on your Mac) will help you in importing that vault into the format 1Password for Mac uses.

Should you have any other questions you know where to find us
