Login item missing after moving to new vault
I just moved a login item from my primary vault to one of my secondary vaults (both on Dropbox) using the context manual (Share / / Move). Nothing happened the first time I selected Move, so I tried again. The login disappeared from my primary vault, but there's no sign of it on the destination vault. It looks like it's already been deleted from my other devices as well.
Any suggestions?

Hi @timstringer,
I'm sorry you ran into trouble when trying to move an item to a secondary vault!
That's very strange, I'm not sure why nothing happened the first time you tried to move the item, or why it seemed to disappear from both vaults after trying the second time. I just tried it myself, and it worked correctly for me. Is there any chance you simply chose the wrong vault when trying to move it, so it might be listed under a different vault than you're expecting?
If you can't find that item in any vault, try looking in the Trash for each vault (the Trash will be shown at the bottom of the left sidebar in 1Password). Does the item appear in the Trash for either vault? If so, you can restore that to the Logins category, then try again to move it.
The item definitely should not be deleted, so I'm sure we can figure out where it went. Let us know how it goes, thanks!

Thanks for the prompt response, Drew.
I have a total of three vaults (including the primary one), all stored in Dropbox. I checked all three vaults (including the Trash) and there's not sign of the item that I moved. I've moved logins to new vaults in the past and haven't had any problems.
Any other suggestions?

Hi @timstringer,
I'm perplexed as to what has happened, just as Drew is too.
It might be using a backup is your only option to recover the disappearing item. I wrote a post earlier to help somebody with a similar situation (recovery of a single item from a backup) and the steps there would be what you need to do too. You can find the post at this link and hopefully it's clear enough.
What I didn't cover in that post as sync wasn't mentioned is that when you restore a backup we disable sync for reasons of safety. So after you've restored your current vault you will need to re-enable sync for each vault in turn. The reason we do this is if you've just restored a backup because something went wrong, the last thing you want is 1Password syncing the same problem and having it return. It does make sense when you think about.
Please do let us know if this helps or if you have any issues at all using the backup and of course we're sorry this happened at all.

Thanks for your detailed response. Since the recovery process is fairly involved, I think I'll see if I can recover the login information…and keep the backup restoration as a "plan b".
I'll let you know if this problem shows up again in the future. Thanks again for your help.

Should the issue happen again please do let us know @timstringer as that sort of thing is terrible. I use the move command myself but if you have any concerns you could always copy, confirm and then delete for that extra level of assurance. I do apologise that this happened at all.

Sounds good…I'll definitely let you know. For particularly important data I'll copy and confirm, just to be on the safe side.

I'm glad littlebobbytables was able to help with some suggestions about that! I do hope you're able to recover information for that missing item, and I'm sorry we weren't able to determine how/why that problem happened. If it turns out you need to recover that item from a backup, these steps from littlebobbytables should help you to do that, but please let us know if you have any questions. We're always happy to help! :)
