Chrome: Different vault for each user?

I use multiple chrome users: one for work, one for personal. I also have multiple 1password vaults: one for work, one for personal. If I select a work chrome window and select my work vault, the personal chrome window also switches to my work value. Is there any way to have each chrome user have a different independent vault setting?

  • Greetings @YesThatTom,

Sadly the answer is no at the moment. That setting is stored in a single location and switching vaults applies to the main window, 1Password mini and as a result all instances of the 1Password Browser Extension regardless of the browser. Now both Firefox and Chrome do support multiple profiles but I don't see this as being a really simple alteration given where the active vault is currently stored and what uses this information. That isn't to say it may not happen one day but it probably won't be soon. I apologise for not supplying a more positive answer, I just didn't want to get your hopes up that it might appear in the next version. You're not the first to ask though and I shall add your voice to the support to see this happen.

Thanks for the honesty. If you have a "wishlist" in your bugtracking/featurerequest database, I'd love to see this added to it.

    Thanks!

  • I can do that for you @YesThatTom

Out of curiosity, we also see requests for a universal view of all vaults, would that be an acceptable alternative here (so all items accessible from one view) or would that be something you would not want? Depending on the user I can see it going either way given the request is about specifying an active vault per profile.

If universal view means that 1p searched all vaults when looking for a password, that would be acceptable. When creating a new entry it should have a better visual indicator of which vault it is storing in (currently it is kind of difficult to tell).

@YesThatTom: Both excellent points. This is definitely something we're consisting adding in a future version. Thanks so much for your feedback! :)
