Can I mix 1password 3 on one computer with 1password 5 on another while using Dropbox to sync?
I'm looking to upgrade from 1password 3 to 1password 5. I'm currently running version 3.8.22 on two different Macs, using Dropbox to sync my data. What's the best method to perform this upgrade? I read the support article listing all the steps needed to go from 3 to 5 on a single Mac. Can I completely upgrade one computer first, or are there incompatibilities between the file formats of the two versions that would make that inadvisable while Dropbox sync is active?
1Password Version: 3.8.22
Extension Version: 3.9.20
OS Version: 10.10.5
Sync Type: Dropbox

Hi @ericsh,
I see that you just bought the upgrade to a 1Password 5 for Mac license. Thank you so much for your purchase, we really appreciate it! :)
So, to answer your questions in reverse order:
Can I completely upgrade one computer first, or are there incompatibilities between the file formats of the two versions that would make that inadvisable while Dropbox sync is active?
That shouldn't be a problem at all - as long as the Mac with 1Password 3 is running OS X 10.10 (or higher), just install 1Password 5 and it should automatically find your 1Password 3 data when you open it the first time (as described here). If both Macs have OS X 10.10 and 1Password 3, you can follow the same steps to install 1Password 5 on each one.
After you do that, you may need to enable Dropbox sync in 1Password 5 (on each Mac), which you can do from Preferences > Sync. You can choose the .agilekeychain file that already exists in Dropbox (it might ask you to merge, which is fine). For more detailed steps to set up Dropbox sync, please check out this knowledgebase article.
What's the best method to perform this upgrade?
Hopefully my answer above already answers this question. ;)

Sure! But if both Macs are running OS X 10.10 or higher, you really don't need to do that. Just set up 1Password 5 on both Macs, then sync them with each other by setting up Dropbox sync.
Hopefully you're all set, but if you have more questions about that or need anything else, just let us know. :)
