1Password failed to connect to 1Password mini
I have restarted, reloaded, no change. I am running an earlier version of 1Password on a separate partition with snow leopard . I have restarted with both by backup drives disconnected. I ran the troubleshooting app. I repaired permissions and attributes - no help. The app is not generating a report.

Hi @bbezner,
I'm sorry you're getting the "1Password failed to connect to 1Password mini" error message! Are you getting that error when trying to open the main 1Password app? If so, please try these steps:
- Go to the Applications folder and drag 1Password 5.app to the Trash (do not use any app cleaning tools).
- Empty the Trash, then reboot your Mac.
- After the reboot, download a fresh copy of 1Password 5 from our download site.
- Once downloaded, unzip the file if necessary and drag it to the Applications folder.
- Double-click the new app to open it.
Does it work now, or do you still get the same error? Please let us know how it works out for you. Thanks!

Yes, It's when I try to open the main password app. Did what you suggested, and still the same results.

Greetings @bbezner,
Being unable to connect to 1Password mini must be frustrating enough but you're saying that you also cannot create a diagnostic report? That I've not seen before as the script is merely making a few enquires regarding files present and running processes. Now the script isn't super fast at all, it takes a number of seconds on my rMBP so depending on the machine it could take a bit but if I'm to understand correctly you click the Create Report... button and you get the little process indicator but at no point after that does is the indicator icon replaced with the following image, even if left for a few minutes?
Here is my concern, the idea is the diagnostic report tool should be able to run in almost any situation because it's what we fall back on when we need detailed information. It doesn't do anything fancy so it would be a really broken system that fails to see it generate a report. We'll continue working with you, I'm just hoping you can confirm that you're unable to create a diagnostic report as that may strongly influence how we proceed.

That is correct. I was unable to create a report. Left if running for several minutes, and still nothing. support ID is [#FSR-62329-665]

@bbezner: From your email it sounds like you may have multiple copies of 1Password hanging around on your system. If we can get those cleared out that should solve the issue you're having — or at least get us on the road there. Please follow this guide and do a Spotlight search to Trash any duplicate (or old) copies of 1Password and then restart your Mac:
How to remove multiple, conflicting copies of 1Password from your system
Please let me know what you find. I look forward to hearing back from you! :)

I have an older copy (3.8.22) on a partition running Snow Leopard which shows on Spotlight as well as the backup
1Passwords on external HDs The problem stays the same even when I boot with the HDs disconnected. I need 1Password on the partition, in order to use it when I use apps (still using Appleworks) on that partition. Do you think that is the problem? And, if that is the problem... how do I run 1 Password on both partitions? Also, as of today... the 1 Password icon does not show on the menu bar (the Safari extension does, but not the 1Password icon), on the system running 1 Password 5. Do I need to reload the older version? It was working fine until I upgraded to 5.Bob

@bbezner: As I mentioned (and is addressed in more detail in the knowledgebase article I linked), multiple copies often result in OS X launching the wrong copy of 1Password mini. It isn't something 1Password has any control over, unfortunately, so the best thing to do is remove all but the one you're actually using.
Not that this only applies to 1Password 4 and 5. You can keep your copy of 1Password 3 around, but keeping the 'backup' copies of 1Password 5 will leave you at the mercy of
launchd
. You can always⌃ ⌘ Q
to fully quit each copy of 1Password and mini, but this is cumbersome. I have to do this because I need to have multiple version for testing, but there's no need for you to suffer the same fate, especially since you can always download a fresh copy from our website if needed — no need for a 'backup'! Of course it's entirely up to you, but this is the solution to the problem you're having. I hope this helps! :)0
