1Password mini Password Generator History dropdown
I am not completely sure if someone else might have asked this, but I've run across this issue a few times.
I had my 1Password mini in Safari generate a new password, but it didn't pop up with the request to add/update the password in any existing/new field.
There is a place under the generator that shows "password history" along with how long ago a password was generated, but then... nothing else?
Why doesn't it give us a "Copy" "Update Current" or "Create New" option for this generated password?

Hi @jpartain89,
Sorry for the trouble here! If you clicked "copy" or "fill" from the Password Generator, then 1Password saved that password as a new item in the Passwords category (rather than a login). This is one of the safety net features we put in place just in case this happens.
Now that you can find the generated password, try manually saving the login for that website. Hope this helps!

I, unfortunately, am unable to complete those steps! When I try to add a new entry, the password field appears blank and does not autofill from the generated history.
There doesn't seem to be a way to copy the previous password, as it does not save to my clipboard nor does it fill any blank spaces/password fields when I attempted it previously.
I am at a loss on this one!!

Hi @jpartain89,
So sorry for the continued confusion. When you look at the main 1Password app, in the Categories list on the left sidebar, you should see a category called Passwords (separate from Logins). In that category, you should see a Password item which was automatically saved for each website on which you have previously attempted to fill or copy a generated password. Do you find your missing generated password(s) there?

I totally knew that was there, and I totally feel goofy now. Thank you so much for reminding me of that wonderful tidbit!!!!
But, this COULD become an improvement in the mini 1pass! Why can't that type of functionality be built into the password generator? Since that is where it was built, it could continue to have the workflow to have a copy option for that password?
Thank you so so much!!

Hello @jpartain89,
That is a lot of beta testing you've got going on there
Now I am surprised as I test three scenarios in 1Password mini with a Password item and all of them resulted in the password field being filled.
- I visited Amazon's login page - it's always a solid page to test with.
- I generated a password, creating a Password item as a result of our safety measures. Now it did fill the Amazon password field.
- Clearing as I go I tried the following.
- Opening 1Password mini and selecting the Password item as it displays as a matching item. I'm pretty confident it only offered it here because that vault did't have a Login item for Amazon already. Selecting the Password item causes 1Password to fill the password field.
- Opening 1Password mini and navigating to the Password Generator's history and selecting the Password item there. This also resulted in the password field being filled.
- Opening 1Password mini and expanding the Passwords category there. If it isn't visible click the Show X more categories to reveal it. Selecting the Password item there resulted in the password field being filled.
As you can see, you should be able to have 1Password fill using a Password item so I'll have to investigate why it isn't working for you.
There is a keyboard shortcut you might like though. With an item highlighted in 1Password mini the keyboard shortcut
⇧⌘C
will copy the password contained in the item and close 1Password mini. This will leave you free to paste it wherever you want afterwards. Could that be useful if the filling function isn't working as it should?0
