Ability to sync two macs using wifi sync or other non cloud solution?

Hi! I love 1password and use it religiously. As I see a number of others have done (in the forums) I have both the mac and iOS apps - and have a primary vault on my home mac and one on my work mac. I want to keep them separate (home stays on home mac, work stays on work mac) but sync both to my iPhone so I can get to both (individually - as separate vaults) on the go.
I see that I can do this if I use DropBox to sync (right?) - keeping separate vaults but syncing two macs to one iPhone. But i'm security paranoid and so is my work -- it would be much preferred to keep passwords, encrypted or not, off the cloud.
Is there (or will there be) support for using wifi sync (or some non-cloud solution) to sync an iOS app (iPhone) to two macs with different vaults?

    Hi @ClayChip,

Those are good questions! The sync options in 1Password work a little differently from each other, so it can be a little confusing at times. The short answer is that, currently, the only way to set it up the way you want (a different/separate vault on each Mac, both synced to your iPhone) is to use Dropbox sync.

But i'm security paranoid and so is my work -- it would be much preferred to keep passwords, encrypted or not, off the cloud.

That's certainly understandable, and I'm glad you and your employer are both being careful with the security of your data! In case it helps, I wanted to explain that 1Password is secure by design and your 1Password data is end-to-end encrypted, so with regard to security there's no difference between syncing 1Password data with Dropbox or another sync option. 1Password simply doesn't depend on the security of the sync option to protect your data.

Now, as for why Wi-Fi sync won't work for the setup you want, there are actually a couple reasons. One is that Wi-Fi sync was designed to work between a single Mac and one or more iOS devices. The other reason is that, although Wi-Fi sync supports multiple vaults, the Primary vault on your Mac will always be synced to the Primary vault on the iPhone, no matter what. So you wouldn't be able to keep two separate vaults on your iPhone that way - if you were able to sync both Macs with your iPhone via Wi-Fi, you would end up with all your work & personal data merged into the same Primary vault on all three devices. (Dropbox sync is much more flexible in this situation.)

I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you! But if you have more questions about that or need anything else, please let us know - we're here for you! :)
