Password works but not on iMac in storage for 2 years
My 1Pass master password works on my laptop, but not on my iMac desktop, which has been in storage for 2 years. Just downloaded the new version today. Error message says it detects data on the stored computer dating to 2012 (and a password hint that's not helping!) I don't want to create a new vault, but use the existing one. Not sure what to do.
1Password Version: 5.3.2

Have you synced your data from your laptop to Dropbox or iCloud (only if you bought for the Mac App Store for the latter)? If so, you ought to be able to sync the stored machine to those data. Before we go further, let us know.
If you haven't synced to a cloud source from your laptop, and if that laptop has the most recent version of your data, your first step in my estimation would be to set up syncing from your laptop, and then start fresh from your stored Mac.
More details about what to do next will depend on what you have to say about my comments here.

Hi @ssata,
Hawkmoth is correct - and just to make sure we understand, does your iMac have an older version of your current 1Password vault, or does it have a completely different/separate vault that only exists on that iMac and which you need to access? If it's just an older copy of your data (and you have all your up-to-date information in 1Password on your laptop), your best option is to simply reset/start over with 1Password on your iMac and sync your current data there from your laptop.
Assuming you don't need the older copy of your data that is on the iMac (i.e. you want to use the newer data you have on your laptop), we'll be happy to give you the steps to get that all setup, although the steps might be a little different depending on a few things. Can you please let us know the following:
- What version of Mac OS X are you running on each Mac?
- What exact version of the 1Password app is installed on your laptop?
- What exact version(s) of the 1Password app do you have on your iMac?
- Are you using the AgileBits Store version or the Mac App Store version of 1Password on each Mac?
- How are you syncing your 1Password data on your laptop (Dropbox, iCloud, etc)?
- Aside from your laptop and iMac, what other devices/computers are you syncing with 1Password (if any)?
- What version of 1Password are you using on the other devices/computers (if any)?
Thanks!

Hi everyone! Thank you. I'd like to access the info that's obtainable from the newer laptop. Both computers are running OS X.10.5. On the laptop I have 5.3.2 running. On the desktop, 5.3.2. I think I'm using the AgileBits version, I believe. I need the data on the laptop more than that on the desktop.
I don't know if I've synced onto Dropbox. Can't seem to find it.
I'm also syncing with my MB Air. (Can't check that right now.)
Looking forward to hearing your advice! Thank you.0 -
HI folks, I found this article elsewhere on the forum:
https://support.1password.com/uninstall-v3-extension/
I've downloaded the new app from AgileBits, but can't log in to fully uninstall any old software or apps that may be on here because...1Password isn't taking my password on the older machine. (This is an endless loop, I'm afraid.) So what are my options? Opening 1Password in a machine that works, copying all the info, and starting all over?0 -
Hi @ssata,
Thanks for letting us know! Sorry about the delay over the weekend.
I'd like to access the info that's obtainable from the newer laptop.
That's what I was hoping you'd say! ;) If all your current 1Password data is on your laptop, you don't have to worry about losing the old 1Password data on your iMac - you'll be able to remove the older data from your iMac and replace it with the newer data from your laptop.
Before doing anything else, please make a new backup of your 1Password data on your laptop. From the main 1Password app, go to File > Backup. That will open the Backup preferences and show all your backups, including the new one you just made.
I found this article elsewhere on the forum:
https://support.1password.com/uninstall-v3-extension/You don't need to worry about that on your iMac. The browser extension for 1Password 3 kept a separate copy of your data and synced with the main app. The instructions you found are to make sure that happened correctly before you delete the 1Password 3 extension. But that doesn't matter in your case, because the data on your iMac is old, so we'll be removing it all (and then syncing the new data from your laptop). You can go ahead and remove the 1Password 3 extension from the browser on your iMac.
I don't know if I've synced onto Dropbox. Can't seem to find it.
On your laptop, open 1Password and go to the menu for 1Password > Preferences, then click the Sync tab. That will show if you currently have one of the sync options (like Dropbox) enabled. If Dropbox is already selected there, great! That will make it easier to sync your current 1Password data to your old iMac (more about that below).
If you don't currently have a sync option set up in 1Password 5 on your laptop, you can enable Dropbox sync by following these steps: Sync with Dropbox
Now, getting back to your iMac - what you need to do is reset 1Password 5 on your iMac, and you can do that by following the steps here: How do I start over with an empty vault?
After following those steps, open 1Password 5 on your iMac and it should be like the first time you're setting it up. You'll be able to choose to sync your current 1Password data from Dropbox. Just follow the steps here: Using existing 1Password data on a new computer
Please let us know how it all goes, and if you have more questions about that. Thanks!
