App store is asking me to buy again... !!!!
HI,
I have a purchased pro version of 1password on my 2 macs ( Laptop and mac pro). Also the iOS version on my iOS devices.
Recently my laptop version has got corrupted asking me to download again. I use iCloud to sync and also need to update to 5 on my laptop . On going to the app store it only gives me the option to BUY the software again, but i ALREADY OWN it.
If i download from the website it downloads AND recognises i own it and all works fine BUT ICLOUD SYNC doesn't work on my laptop from the version from your site.
PLEASE HELP ME!!
How can i get the app store to allow me to download an ICLOUD FRIENDLY version for my laptop without having to buy it AGAIN !!
My mac pro is recognising i own 1pass via the app store and updated to V5 no problem, just the laptop app store doesn't recognise i own it.
Many thanks for your help in advance!

The App Store wants $49.99 for the OS X app. I have previously paid for 1P. Thanks.

@sayfritz: Please make sure that you are logged into the Mac App Store on your laptop with the same Apple ID that you originally purchased 1Password from the Mac App Store with. This would be the same Apple ID that your Mac Pro is logged in with.

I'm in the same boat. Don't know what to do.

@phirenze Did you try doing what I suggested above regarding making sure you are logged into the Mac App Store using the correct Apple ID (the one you originally used to purchase 1Password from the Mac App Store)?

I did, thanks for the advice AG. It's still not working. I only have one Apple ID. Although I have a different iCloud ID. But I don't ever use that for the store. They are tied together though so it shouldn't matter. At least I don't think it would matter. When I purchased the OS X app it wasn't $49.99. I forget how much it was but it was less than that. Would I still be eligible for the same app? (hoping so)

Hello Phirenze. The price at the time you purchase an app never matters; you are of course eligible to re-download an app store purchase. To have a more clear understanding of your issue:
⁍ Is there any remanence of the app itself on your computer of course precluding your vault?
⁍ Did you try to use your iCloud credentials even though you said you never use them to make purchases? If your answer is no to the second question try to log in using the iCloud credentials for troubleshooting purposes. If it works press ⌘-F4 to reveal the Purchases page and check if 1Password exists. If not log out and back in using your Apple ID credentials. My guess is pressing ⌘-F4 will not show 1Password on the Purchase page. If it does appear but says ‘Installed’ instead of ‘Download’ I have the feeling the app receipt and bill of materials files are still on your computer and recognised by the Mac app store. This is very common when an app is moved to the trash and the trash subsequently emptied. To fix this I suggest to use a third-party utility called UninstallPKG to completely eradicate the disk of the app including the aforementioned hidden files. This will not remove your vault but I suggest to take additional precautions as a safety measure. If you are interested I will outline the procedure to ensure the app is completely uninstalled so you can attempt to re-install from the Mac app store.

⁍ Is there any remanence of the app itself on your computer of course precluding your vault? - No
⁍ Did you try to use your iCloud credentials even though you said you never use them to make purchases? - YesI've checked the purchases page and it is not there. But that prompted me to check my email and I found a discussion I had with Stu Helm back in 2011 about transferring my Windows version over to Mac. That is when I bought the Mac version. At some discounted rate I believe because I had the Windows family license and was not going to be using it any longer. This is all a lot of trouble. I'm not sure I'm up for all of that UninstallPKG stuff to tell you the truth.

So the first thing I'd like to do is just say clarify that if the issue is related to the Mac App Store that while we will do our best to advise, we have no control there at all. Obviously any issue regarding 1Password once it has launched is totally our domain but from purchase to download in the Mac App Store it's Apple you may end up needing to talk to.
That isn't to say there aren't a few things we can't check though. These are general as I'm addressing more than one person.
- The easiest thing to check is to see if your purchase of 1Password for Mac has been accidentally hidden in the Mac App Store. This link, Hide and unhide purchases in the Mac App Store will help there.
- If that doesn't reveal the purchase I would suggest trawling through your Apple related purchases to find the receipt, make sure you can see the purchase. All purchases made through Apple can be viewed by following the steps at See your purchase history in the iTunes Store or if you keep emails you should have an email from either
Apple
oriTunes Store
as the sender.
Some of the possible causes in situations like this are:
- Confusion over our platform licensing. 1Password for iOS has an in-app purchase we call the Pro features. The purchase of the Pro features does not confer a licence on OS X which is a single upfront purchase - 1Password for Mac has no Pro features. Now in the case of @sayfritz this seems unlikely as their Mac Pro shows it.
- Purchased on a different Apple ID.
- Changing the region of an Apple ID.
I would also say that a number of people are reporting quirky behaviour over the last couple of days since the release of iOS
10. We're getting a number of reports regarding iCloud and a number of users saying they aren't being offered the latest version of 1Password for iOS. I myself found the iOS App Store was really sluggish. I wonder if Apple's servers have been taking a bit more of a beating than normal.Returning to the issue. If the purchase isn't hidden, you've found evidence of the purchase of 1Password for Mac (Mac App Store) and it is indeed with the current Apple ID you may need to contact Apple to learn more. They at least will have access to the relevant systems and so should be able to say with some confidence what is occurring. This isn't to say we here at AgileBits won't try to assist but we cannot access anything on Apple's side.
I can't say I've ever used UninstallPKG but I wouldn't recommend it. 1Password for Mac, both versions is a self-contained application. Removal of it only requires moving the application from
/Applications/
to Trash. Should you need to touch the support files at all UninstallPKG won't help and we'd prefer to ensure this is needed before you start given your vault is in there.0 -
The reason why I recommended using UninstallPKG to check for any references to AgileBits or 1Password is because, know it or not, each and every time something is installed from the Mac app store, there are also hidden files installed as well. I think these are receipts and bill of materials files. To uninstall the package [I think Apple installs each app from a package but I can be wrong] will uninstall the app bundle itself along with everything most users do not know exists. Keep in mind this suggestion is intended as a final resort.

Indeed! But before any of us resorts to manually deleting hidden files, it may be best to contact Apple directly. After all, if there's a problem with either the Apple ID purchase records or the App Store installation, they're the only ones who'll be able to do anything about it. Cheers! :)
