I have been using the free trial and want to have our family use 1p but my husband has a pc and I have a mac. How does this work...he has tried logging into my vault but it is not synced to his pc? I don't want to go changing all of our passwords and have him locked out

    Hi @suzwalk,

It sounds like our Mac+Windows bundle would be the right purchase for your family.

You can sync your 1Password data between computers with Dropbox sync, which must be enabled on each computer.

Let us know how it goes for you! We're here if you have any further questions. :)

Thank you Vee...I got the Mac+Windows bundle today and spent the better pat of the day updating passwords and untangling the mess of linked accounts to Facebook etc! Now when my husband returned home tonight I expected that he could download the 1P onto his PC and all of my work would be there...this was not the case...he set up his 1P but there was none of the info that I had been working on all day there. I had set up to sync thru wifi and dropbox...went thru the steps to sync with drop box...he set up a DB account...figured out that we need to share a DB account (yes?) for him to retrieve the 1P info...is this correct? He was able to open my vault thru DB by clicking on the agile keychain and get into all of the info but nothing "synced" with the PC...he was looking at "1P everywhere" which seemed like something I could log into from a remote computer...not a simple vault like I have on my Mac...not to mention that we had to put in the long and complicated password for my DB account and he wont be able to remember that and will have to write it down on a sticky note and we will be back to where we started! Can someone please tell me where I am going wrong?
Also, the browser extension on his PC is there but when you click on it nothing happens and how do we get 1P to work with our banking apps on our phones?? This is tough for the not so tech savvy!
    Thank you!

  • Hello @suzwalk,

That's a lot of questions! If it's okay with you I say we take them one at a time. I think the best thing to do is start with making sure you can both see the same vault .

Between Windows and Mac your only real option is Dropbox. Anything else will cause you pain and it's not worth it. With Dropbox you have two options.

    1. You both share a single Dropbox account. You both install the Dropbox service on your machines and log into the same account.
    2. You have separate Dropbox accounts. You both install the Dropbox service on your machines and log into your own accounts. If you have synchronised your copy of 1Password for Mac to Dropbox already you probably have a 1Password folder in your Dropbox and inside that a 1Password.agilekeychain that is your sync container. What you will want to do is share the 1Password folder with your husband's Dropbox account and Dropbox has a page on this titled How do I share a file or folder with others?.

No matter which approach you take, you both should have a Dropbox folder on your computer and you should both be able to see the same Agile Keychain.

Now assuming your husband has 1Password for Windows installed he should be able to select the Agile Keychain in the Dropbox folder. This page, The first time you run 1Password (Windows) will hopefully help with some of the steps and the images.

Now 1Password for Windows does look pretty different from 1Password for Mac and operates differently in a number of ways too. The big way is that 1Password for Mac stores your vault locally on your Mac and the Agile Keychain was only created because you set up syncing. In 1Password for Windows the Agile Keychain is the vault and 1Password for Windows reads and writes to it directly. On one level you shouldn't need to know this, all you care about is that 1Password for Mac synchronises any modifications between the local vault and the Agile Keychain. The result is 1Password for Windows should see everything in your vault and any changes or additions made in 1Password for Windows should be visible on the Mac.

If everything is going well your husband should see something link this

I borrowed that image from our page The main 1Password program (Windows).

Once we've reached the stage that both you and your husband are able to interact with the same vault we can move onto the other areas. Does that sound like a plan?
