I want to have access to multiple vaults from multiple dropbox accounts. Is that possible?

I manage the support for a # of clients. I want each client to have their own vault, and stored on their own Dropbox accounts. However I want access to all those vaults from my interface (mac os x, and iOS).

Is this possible?

Yes you can, on OS X you would need to ask them to share a folder with you. https://www.dropbox.com/en/help/19

They would need to keep their keychain in that folder, to enable you to access it. More than likely the keychain is already in a folder they just need to share it with you.

    https://support.1password.com/guides/mac/multiple-vaults.html

The great reason for a shared folder is then the keychains become local to your account, enabling offline access etc. In OS X. This is also a plus for setting up iOS for you. As the only login details you would need, would be your own Dropbox vault. You would not need to input each of their passwords and or gain 2 Factor Authentication approval to access their Dropbox accounts.

On thing to note you need a very straight forward sharing approach to such a situation. Each other individuals vaults needs to be in its own folder, don't mix and match as this could put someone else's keychain on someone else machine.

In my screen shot you can see I have a single Folder called "1Password All" it is not shared. Down one level I have multiple folders shared with specific family members across different Dropbox accounts. The reason the primary is not shared is with Dropbox, a "shared folder" cannot be within another "shared folder" because in such circumstances one could accidentally gain access to the "shared parent folder" from the "shared child folder". So to prevent issues Dropbox just disables all sharing within a shared folder.

I apologize if thats not clear, I have NOT had my coffee this AM. :chuffed: Eh Yet.

    Notes on my screen shot.

1Password All, is my primary folder for all things 1Password in my Dropbox account. (Not Shared)
The individual shares you see are between different Dropbox accounts. (Specific to the user you are managing)
The Family folder at the bottom, contains all the vaults the wife and I share as a family and our personal ones are in that folder as well.

Edit: I hope I have not confused you, I am up and about for that cup of coffee now. If I missed anything or its not clear, please post another question.

  • Hi @thesocialdiner,

thightower knows a thing or two about Dropbox so I really doubt there's anything I can add here. If you have any follow up questions please do ask
