Having problem with iMac and Dropbox sync. All other devices sync correctly except iMac.

The iMac always overwrites the Dropbox keychain even when I click ignore. This deletes new information added from other device. If I leave the iMac offline the Dropbox sync works between MacBook, iPhone, iPad. Is there a way to make the iMac forget it's keychain and open a new keychain?

@cobrapilot: I'm confused about a few things here:

The iMac always overwrites the Dropbox keychain even when I click ignore.

    Maybe a screenshot would help.

This deletes new information added from other device.

This sounds like your iMac may have an invalid/incorrect date/time which is confusing Dropbox into thinking the iMac's data is always the most up-to-date. Be sure to check for this before you do anything else!

Is there a way to make the iMac forget it's keychain and open a new keychain?

Do you mean you want to start over completely without a vault on the iMac, and then sync everything back over from another device? This is totally doable, but whether or not this is worthwhile will depend on what you find above. Please let me know! :)

No the iMac, iPhone and iPad date/time are in sync. Please tell me how to make the iMac forget the local keychain. I want to completely remove the keychain from the iMac and start from scratch. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling, but that did not remove the local keychain.

@cobrapilot: Please check our this guide in our knowledgebase:

Starting over with an empty vault

But you can also use the Data Reset Utility for 1Password 5 to automate the process. Before we go too far, you should back up your existing data by selecting File > Backup from the menu bar. Then follow these steps to start over with a new vault:

    1. Download the Data Reset Utility for 1Password 5
    2. Double-click the ZIP file to decompress it (if your browser didn't do that for you automatically)
    3. Control-click on the tool and select "Open" from the shortcut menu
    4. Follow the prompts, and 1Password should give you the chance to start with a new vault

Please let me know how it turns out. I look forward to hearing back from you! :)

Thank you. Problem resolved. I ran the Data Reset Utility on the iMac ... when I started 1Password on the iMac iPassword automatically found the keychain in Dropbox. Now After three days of testing, from all my devices (including the iMac), 1Password is in sync!

  • On behalf of brenty, you're welcome. I'm glad you're up and running now with the syncing working well.
